I just want to say thank you to my colleagues at Performers College for making my last day yesterday, special. Almost 19 years running the physio service there...leaving is a big change. I won't miss the 6am starts and the 9.30pm finishes but will miss the people I have had the privilege to work with for so many years and the talented students. And most of all I'll miss the wonderful Amanda Huke-Smith, who has taken over the reins and does and will continue to provide absolutely amazing physio service to the students at Performers. I couldn't have left it in more capable and caring hands.

I'm still available for remote specialist physiotherapy advice and will be offering in person appointments later this month in Brightlingsea...! But for now...breathe, relax and much needed family time.

Newsflash!

Sadly, due to family priorities, from 11th February 2022, Performers Physiotherapy will no longer be providing the onsite Physiotherapy services to Performers College. Performers Physiotherapy will still be providing the onsite Physiotherapy care for Evolution Foundation College and continuing with online/remote consultations for any performer or dancer who requires specialist physiotherapy services.

This has been a hard decision, necessitated by the need to prioritise family and especially our daughter. Between us, we (Nicola and Leon) have provided Physiotherapy services for the college for a combined total of 45 years (!) and we have worked with many talented students, graduates, teachers and our physio teams.

Plans are in place at Performers College for Amanda Huke-Smith to take over the provision of physiotherapy onsite after February half term. Amanda is absolutely perfect to take on this role, not least because she has been an intergral part of our team for the last 4.5 years and is an absolutely wonderful physiotherapist. Students and staff, please give her your support as she takes over and remember I will still be offering remote/telehealth appointments, or in person appointments in North Essex...if anyone wants to combine a seaside walk with their Physiotherapy!

Exciting Opportunity! Expanded!!!

Performers Physiotherapy Birmingham

In September 2021 we will be opening a third branch of Performers Physiotherapy, on site at the Performers College Birmingham Campus with the role of offering the same services that exist at our Performers College Essex Site. We are looking for a local physiotherapist interested in dance and musical theatre to work alongside our team in Essex and deliver the physiotherapy support services for the students on the BA Hons Degree in Musical Theatre and Dance.

Due to an increase in student numbers, Initially the role will be for approx 2 days per week on site in Digbeth, with additional days for screening and auditions as required. The successful candidate will need to be prepared to do occasional days at our Essex site for training and auditions. As the Birmingham college expands (initially there will only be one year group, with a second-year group starting in September 2022 & a third-year in September 2023) there is potential for the hours to increase and increase the team.

The successful candidate will be self-employed, but closely supported by our team in Essex. Ideally the successful candidate will have at least 2 years post graduate experience, but I will welcome enquiries from less experienced physiotherapists with a dance background who would like to work within our team. Our aim is to recreate the specialist physiotherapy services offered for the last 24 years at the Essex Campus in Birmingham, and is an exciting opportunity continue to develop these services further.

If you are interested in discussing this further, please contact Nicola via email (performersphysio@outlook.com) including your CV and a covering letter.

Finally, it is published! The first longitudinal study of musical theatre dancer injuries. Super proud. It's a good benchmark for others to now work from and I do hope others do take this work forwards.

Huge thanks to Leon, Sofia and Michelle who both helped in the early days with data collection. We did it!!!
