A timely reminder that we are always working away in the background.
In the early days of founding our campaign group, some of us were shocked to discover the consultation for the closure of Ross Thomson was carried out in 2014.

We raised our concerns with the then permanent secretary in Summer of 2023, we continued to press and we met with the Mental Health Director and colleagues in Causeway Hospital in October. Details below.

We continue to truly advocate for local hospital services for local people, with common sense at the heart of all we do.

300+ delayed inductions of labour between Aug '23 & Oct '24 (170 deferred over 12 hrs), 57 planned C-sections beyond 12 hrs & yet we're told "it is part of the normal process for scheduled births to be delayed, if clinically safe to do so."

We were told in 2023 Antrim could cope, we are still being told the same.

The patients & staff we are consistently hearing from would tend to disagree.

Transfer of births from Causeway to Antrim was wrong in July 2023 & it's wrong now.
Are we to believe the transfer of Emergency Surgery would be different?

Traumatic birthing stories are increasingly coming to our attention following the first step in the "transformation" which transferred births from Causeway to Antrim Area Hospital.

📌We absolutely understand the pressures on the workforce on the ground, in a broken system. We appreciate the efforts of a workforce under stress, possibly experiencing staff shortages and burnout.

📌We have always highlighted the difficulty with a time limit on complaints regarding giving birth. Families are busy getting to grips with their new way of life and often attempting to deal with their experience in their own time. Many of the stories coming to us are over one year post-birth.

📌As NHSCT speak of this 'successful transformation' we believe in transparency. We believe it is important the level of concern is measurable in some way.

We therefore ask any one who has experienced a traumatic birth, since the transformation, or any member of staff to contact us.

The timing of this decision, coinciding with staff notifications of impending budget cuts, has further inflamed concerns. "We are repeatedly told that these decisions are not financially driven," Ms. Brolly emphasised. "Yet, the reality paints a very different picture. If this removal of emergency surgery proceeds, it will not only cripple our healthcare infrastructure by removing that essential wheel, but it will also erase any ounce of trust that remains in the Trust and in the Department of Health. This is a level of damage that will be irreparable for generations."

Ms. Brolly concluded with a resolute message: "Let those responsible be under no illusion: SOS Causeway Hospital will continue to fight this with every fibre of our being. We will explore every avenue, escalate every concern, and mobilise every resource at our disposal to ensure that the healthcare needs of Causeway Coast and Glens are met, and that the trust of our community is not so callously betrayed."
