Construction Academy 🚧 – Derry City & Strabane (Starts 27 Feb 2026)

Ready to take your first step into a career in construction? We’re working in partnership with ( SOCIAL TAG) to deliver a Construction Academy starting 27th February 2026 in the Guildhall, Guildhall Square, L/Derry.

If you’re serious about getting job-ready, building key industry skills, and receiving support throughout - this could be the perfect opportunity for you! Past successful candidates in these academies have gone on to secure employment and apprenticeships with local employers!

Participant Eligibility and Recruitment Strategy:

✔️ Aged 16 or over and resident in Derry City and Strabane District Council
✔️ Genuinely motivated to pursue a career in construction
✔️ Unemployed and ready for work, or in low-paid/zero-hours employment (where criteria apply)
✔️ Demonstrating the right to work in the UK (with evidence provided to DSLMP)

We also ask please if applying that you also are:
✔️ Fully committed and available to attend all training and support without exception
✔️ Not participating in any other initiatives that would conflict with full engagement
✔️ Willing to complete all required paperwork (registration, evaluation, monitoring)
✔️ Open to accepting post-programme mentoring and support

As well as gaining support from the People 1st team, participants will gain a qualification in:

✅ CSR Card (Construction Skills Register) for site access compliance
✅ Manual Handling certification for safe lifting and load management
✅ CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test to ensure construction-specific safety knowledge
Plus there will be additional employability training delivered throughout the programme!!
