Your Tiny Human

Your Tiny Human Antenatal education and support: Doula support for womb to world. The Wise Hippo Birthing Programme for an empowered positive hypnobirthing experience. Who knew!

Trauma release. Congratulations on growing a Tiny Human! And welcome, I'm Siobhán, certified Wise Hippo hypnobirthing instructor, doula and owner of Your Tiny Human.

'Your Tiny Human' exists to spread the most incredible news....Birth can be extraordinary and POSITIVE! I know right?! But it turns out that women have been doing it for FOREVER and that our bodies are actually designed with childbirth specifically in mind. SO...we have our culture to thank for the scare mongering around birth and for making women feel like it is a necessary evil to go through to have your baby. BUT, I want to help you to re-write what you know and believe about birth;
To learn tools and techniques to remain calm and relaxed throughout your birth;
To be empowered to make the best choices for you and your baby;
To create the ultimate birthing team with you and your partner;
To discover how to have the right birth on the day no matter what 'kind' of birth you have;
AND most importantly of all, to remember that very special moment of your life with love and positivity. If you like the sound of what you hear and you would like to have a chat then please get in touch with me so that we can talk about how you want to start your new family life. Siobhán

Doulas come in all shapes and sizes, from a spectrum of backgrounds and training…
This is what makes having a doula so special, you can find one that fits with you and your family
However, deep down we all have the same fundamentals, which make up the anatomy of a doula, we want to support you and your family to have a positive, person centred experience, no matter what your birth looks like
What else would you add to the anatomy of a doula? 🐚❤️

I once wrote about a study that gave me a lot of food for thought and led me to write about how less is more.

The study was about midwives’ decision making, and it showed how decisions are affected by experiences.

In simple terms: when horrid things happen, we tend to focus on what we should do about it.

With the emphasis on the word DO.

Often, research and reports lead to long lists of recommendations about what we should do differently.

These lists often include more monitoring, screening and/or intervention than before, either universally or for women who fall into specific categories.

But there are a number of problems with that, and the human tendency to want to take action - rather than to watch, wait or just be - has downsides.

This is something I’ve written about both in In Your Own Time and What’s Right For Me?

And today I have updated a blog post that I wrote about this, which explains the problem in more depth.

If you’d like to read the blog post, you’ll find it at https://www.sarawickham.com/articles-2/on-doing-more-or-less/

I hope you'll find it useful.

Yes, you can reshare this post, as long as you keep the text, pic and credit intact and do not put Sara’s work/words in your own branding.

Here's a sample letter for waterbirth. You could adapt it to anything else. No need to show evidence. Just say, "I've looked into this and it is my informed decision." And have an expectation of support.

If you would like help drafting a letter then drop me a message.

MARCH WITH MIDWIVES FOR MATERNITY SERVICES

It’s nearly one year since we last stood shoulder to shoulder as mothers, fathers, babies, midwives, doctors, students, nurses and doulas to apply collective pressure on the government to take action.

Since then, the grassroots campaign has achieved so much on a political level. But services have continued to worsen!

And so, a year on and we need to demonstrate again. On Sunday 20th November at 2pm, join us for demonstrations all around the country.

If you’re in Norwich, come and stand, and shout and sing with me.

In Norwich last year we had 300 people coming together!! Can we beat that number this year?!

Please share this far and wide.
