We need to start being kinder to ourselves. đź’™

A client came to see me recently feeling incredibly down on themselves—feeding their own mind thoughts like "I'm a failure," "I'm not good enough," "I'm unworthy."

Sound familiar? So many of us do this without even realizing how damaging it is.

Here's what's happening: when we repeatedly tell ourselves these negative things, our brain believes them. It creates neural pathways that reinforce these thoughts, making them feel like facts rather than feelings. Our subconscious mind doesn't distinguish between what's true and what we're telling it—it just accepts and acts on the information.

Using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we worked together to interrupt these patterns. We focused on what they WANTED rather than what they feared, helping their brain create new, positive pathways. In the relaxed state of hypnosis, the subconscious mind becomes incredibly receptive to helpful suggestions and new perspectives.

After just one session, they said: "I feel so much better than when I arrived, thank you."

I'm Debbie, a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist based in North Wales, helping people both locally and online worldwide.

With 20 years of experience as a weight loss counsellor (working with Slimming World, where I supported an average of 200 clients per week) and 35 years in senior management, I understand the daily challenges that affect our wellbeing. This wealth of experience led me to retrain as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist — because I wanted to help people create lasting, positive change.

The relationship between therapist and client matters more than many people realise. It's not just about techniques or methods – it's about the person sitting across from you, creating that space where real change can happen.

I believe that therapy works best when you feel genuinely comfortable with your therapist. When there's rapport, when you feel heard and understood, when you can relax into the process rather than feeling guarded or anxious about the session itself.

If you're already struggling with anxiety, panic, or difficult feelings, the last thing you need is to feel on edge during your therapy sessions. You need someone who is calm, grounded, and genuinely present with you. Someone who makes you feel at ease from the moment you arrive.

That sense of calm I bring to our sessions isn't just nice to have – it's essential. Your nervous system responds to the energy around you. When you're with someone who is peaceful, warm, and unflappable, it gives your own mind and body permission to settle. You can breathe a little easier. You can open up a little more.
Building that rapport takes time, and it's different for everyone. Some people feel it immediately; for others it develops over a few sessions. But when it's there, when you trust the person you're working with and feel genuinely comfortable in their presence, that's when the real magic happens. I often work with people who are experiencing severe panic attacks and overwhelming anxiety – that terrifying feeling when your heart races, you can't catch your breath, and your mind is telling you something dreadful is about to happen.

If you're living with this, you already know how exhausting and frightening it can be. Panic attacks can make you feel like you're losing control of your own body and mind. The anxiety that comes with them can take over your life, making even simple everyday tasks feel impossible.

But here's something I've witnessed time and time again: people often start to feel better remarkably quickly once they begin working with solution-focused hypnotherapy.
There's something powerful about finally having a safe space to talk about what you're experiencing without judgment, and understanding what's actually happening in your brain when panic strikes. When you realise that what you're feeling has an explanation, that you're not "going mad," and that there are practical ways to work with your mind rather than against it – relief can come surprisingly fast.

Many of my clients tell me they feel a shift even after the first session. They start to feel more hopeful, more in control, more like themselves again. The panic attacks may not disappear overnight, but they begin to lose their power. The anxiety starts to ease. And gradually, you rediscover the calm, confident person you know you can be.

Sometimes people come to see me knowing exactly what they want to work on. But just as often, someone will sit down and say, "I'm not really sure what's wrong. I just know something doesn't feel right."

And that's absolutely okay.

You don't need to have it all figured out before you walk through my door. You don't need to arrive with a neat label for what you're experiencing or a clear explanation of why you're struggling. Sometimes the fog itself is the problem – that sense that something is off, that life feels harder than it should, or that you're just not quite yourself anymore.

Part of creating that safe, non-judgmental space is understanding that clarity often comes through the process, not before it. Together, we gently explore what's happening for you. There's no rush, no pressure to have answers immediately. We work at your pace, and often through that exploration, things start to make sense.
What you're feeling matters, even if you can't quite put it into words yet. That vague sense of unease, the feeling that you're stuck, the knowledge that something needs to change – these are all valid reasons to reach out for support.
My role is to help you untangle those feelings, to create the space where understanding can emerge naturally. And as we work together, not only does clarity often come, but so do the solutions – your solutions, drawn from your own inner wisdom and strength.

As a solution-focused hypnotherapist, one of the most important aspects of my work is creating a space where you can truly discover what you already have within you.

I believe that you are the expert in your own life. My role isn't to tell you what to do or to fix you – because you're not broken. Instead, I'm here to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your own strengths and resources, many of which you might not even realise you possess.

In our sessions together, there's no criticism, no judgment, and no pressure to be anyone other than yourself. This is your space to grow and change at your own pace, in the way that feels right for you. Sometimes we all need somewhere we can speak freely, think clearly, and simply be ourselves without fear of being judged.
What never ceases to amaze me is watching clients reconnect with their own capabilities and inner resources. When you begin to recognise your own strengths, something shifts. Confidence grows. Self-esteem blossoms. You start to see possibilities where before there were only obstacles.

My job is to hold that space for you – to listen, to support, and to help you notice what's already working in your life. Because lasting change doesn't come from me having all the answers. It comes from you discovering your own.
