At the beginning of this week, our residents visited “The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War” — a travelling knitted exhibition currently on display at Stoke Minster.

The exhibition beautifully tells Britain’s wartime story through stunning knitted and crocheted creations. Every piece was full of colour, texture, and emotion — a true tribute to creativity and community spirit. Our residents were fascinated by the incredible detail and loved sharing their own memories and reflections as we explored.

It was a wonderful outing full of smiles, conversation, and inspiration!

Do you know the signs of a stroke? 🤔

During their lifetime, 1 in 4 people will have a stroke, so it is important to know the signs. This year, the focus of is that every minute counts when faced with symptoms of a stroke.

The symptoms of a stroke can be remembered with the simple acronym, FAST.

F - Face drooping 🫤
A - Arm weakness 🙋🏻‍♂️
S - Speech difficulties 🗣️
T - Time to call 999 📞

Everybody should be ready to so that we can be stroke.

Yesterday, our lovely residents here at Astbury Mere Care Home, Congleton rolled up their sleeves and got busy — it was Christmas cake day!

The sweet scent of mixed spices and dried fruit, filled the home as we shared stories, memories, and a few secret family recipes.

Baking our Christmas cake together has become a cherished tradition here — a time to reminisce, connect, and create something delicious that we’ll all enjoy come December.

There’s just something so special about these moments — the smiles, the teamwork, and the feeling of togetherness that truly makes our home feel like family.

We’re pleased to share that this morning we donated food collected in our home to The Storehouse Congleton.

Our Customer Service Manager, Adriana, and Activities and Wellbeing Coordinator, Maxine, visited Jo and Michael at The Storehouse to hand over the donations and hear more about the wonderful work they do supporting local families.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped and contributed — your kindness and generosity mean so much. Together, we’re making a difference!

Last Saturday our residents rolled up their sleeves for a fun and festive craft: pumpkin flower arrangements!

It was a wonderful way to celebrate the season—full of creativity, conversation, and laughter. Now, our tables (and hearts!) are a little brighter.

Yesterday, here at Astbury Mere Care Home, Congleton we marked World Food Day with a fun and flavour-filled celebration! We kicked things off with a global Food Quiz, followed by a selection of nibbles from around the world.

A big congratulations to our quiz winners: Joan, Audrey, and Ursula! Your food knowledge was seriously impressive.

We’re so proud to be part of such a wonderful and caring community!
Our incredible residents Dallas and Pat and lovely ladies from thee local community Pat Triner and Jo Brooks from local U3A have come together to knit beautiful baby hats for the tiniest members of our society.
These handmade hats were recently donated to the maternity and neonatal unit at Royal Stoke University Hospital, where they’ll help keep newborn babies warm and cosy from their very first moments.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who gave their time, care, and creativity to support this lovely initiative. Your kindness truly makes a difference.
