World Kindness Day. We chose a chocolate theme as a thank you to all our staff for making our home a happy place for our residents to live in. Their dedication and constant support for residents doesn't go unnoticed. Staff and residents enjoyed a happy chocolate moment!
Thankyou, we appreciate you!

We either joined together in the TV lounge or preferred to stay in our rooms to watch as King Charles led the National Memorial Service on Remembrance Sunday to honour those who have died in conflict. He was joined by his son Prince William, who was dressed in Royal Air Force uniform in the rank of Wing Commander. 10,000 armed forces veterans took part in the Royal British Legion's march-past through Whitehall, alongside around 20 World War Two veterans.

Celebrating Rememberence Sunday at The Leonard Elms. Residents helped to decorate our tables with some art, we read poems, we had a reminiscing session and wore our poppies. Nicola joined us in singing songs from that era.
A national opportunity to remember and show gratitude for the service and sacrifice of the armed forces and emergency services. We joined in with observing the two-minute silence which is a central part of the commemorations.

Always good having Joe Lloyd come and sing some belters! Residents and staff enjoying singing along to familiar tunes. Crooners, Rock n Roll and even a bit of Reggae. Blowing away the cobwebs of Halloween, get up and dance! Well done all. 🎤🎶 🕺

And that's Halloween wrapped up for another year. We started off with arts and crafts and making our own scary decorations, bats and pumpkins using recycled things around the home. This included our Halloween tin can game, trickier than you think! We decorated our jolly trolly and filled it with chocolate for all our residents to enjoy. No tricks, just treats this time! And to end our Halloween fun, we had entertainment by David Ible. Magic tricks brought a few head scratchers and some laughter. We watched as David made balloon animals, filled the room with bubbles and had some dancers on the dance floor while he sang some spooky tunes. Phew, after all that fun, the little red devils are put away for another year!

Games and exercise time with our new purchases from the Summer Party funds. Ping pong and colorful cones were fun. But the hit of the day was the play parachutes, with its vibrant rainbow colours. With turn-taking and cooperation, it encouraged cooperative play while building our residents upper-body strength in a fun way. There was certainly some fun and laughter had! Part of our job is to be aware of residents isolating themselves, and who don't usually join in. So gentle encouragement is important. It helps with emotional well being, being sociable, encourages friendships and will improve quality of life. Bring on the next session!

Why are we waiting! This is the best way to have lunch. For social and emotional wellbeing, eating together provides a valuable social opportunity for residents to connect and reminisce. For those with dementia, this shared activity can be especially beneficial for memory and wellbeing. It can
improve nutrition and when staff sit with residents to eat, they can provide support, encourage food intake, and increase the likelihood of residents finishing their meals and even having seconds. 😋

Our holistic session with Autumnal aromas filling the room from our glowing oil burner. Gentle music playing in the background. Warm bubbly water ready for massage. Using our fragrant creams for hands and feet. Nail trims and filing, the whole package! We promote healthy skin where everyone can join in, including our non verbal residents. Well done Alison!

Today is World Mental Health Day. And we were lucky to spend it with a beautiful Samoyed dog called Lunar. Animals and pets have such a significant role with mental health. Companionship and interactions, such as stroking or playing can reduce stress levels and have a calming effect. Lunar is very patient and she loves all the attention!
