The weather outside is abysmal.
I’m not teaching until 7pm tonight.
Right now there is only one sensible thing to be doing!

According to some very observant students someone was tapping on the window at Castleside Village Hall this morning after the Yoga class had started. I didn’t notice but if it was someone turning up for the class then please be aware:

1) We start promptly at the stated time (in this case 9.30am.)

2)I secure the external doors at all of my venues within the first five minutes of a class starting for obvious security reasons.

3) I am unlikely to hear you if you knock or tap as I am either too far away or I am focused on teaching.

I’m sorry if you missed out on the session today but do be aware of the above and turn up at least 5 minutes before the start of any of my classes to get settled and guarantee entry.

Yoga is for living! Keeping us mobile, building resilience and helping manage stress!

Here’s how 40 years of working in the NHS has influenced me as a yoga teacher:

* I want to see the evidence! Why are we working with that asana or breathing practice? What are the realistic and evidence based benefits?

* Keeping up to date with current thinking. Research and development is ongoing in all aspects of practice and so much has changed even in just the 30 years that I’ve been practicing yoga.

* Asking questions and listening to my student. Not every practice is suitable for everyone and the person living with or managing a health condition is the expert in that field. I offer modifications and options based on collaborative discussion.

* Getting off my mat and observing students throughout. I’m the professional in the room and I’m teaching yoga not doing my own practice!

Details of my classes are on my website jacqui-Gunnion-yoga.co.uk

Two posts in one this morning!
Firstly a massive Thank You to everyone who joined me yesterday in Newton for my workshop/CPD event on Somatic Yoga theory and practice. It was a pleasure to meet you all and your hard work and contributions really made the day!
Secondly - standard classes are all running to schedule this week. It would be great to see you at one of them x

The word “Yoga” means to “bring together” or “join”. It has the same root as “yoke”.
In our own practice we bring together breath, mind and body.
In our classes we do something even better - we come together as a community!
I’m always incredibly grateful to the people who choose to come to my sessions. We share our love of yoga through practice and we also share our thoughts, ideas and experiences.
In today’s disjointed and often isolated world where everything seems polarised and the emphasis is on “difference” it’s lovely to come together and celebrate what we have in common instead!
Thank you to everyone who came to classes this week either online or in person for being part of my little community! I am so grateful for your presence. Xx

Is it the time of the year where you want to go to Yoga but you’re struggling to leave the house because it’s so dark and cold outside?
Maybe you’ve just got home from work or from walking the dog and want a slow practice that will ease out the tensions of the day but without throwing yourself through a vigorous sequence?
Imagine joining a gentle session from the comfort of your living room where you can end snuggled up in your own blanket for that final relaxation.
Come and join me online every Wednesday from 7 pm until 8pm and discover a yoga class that gives you all of that and more!
Email jacquigunnionyoga@gmail.com for more details and to book your spot.

This is my latest handknit jumper.
I followed a pattern by Modori Hirose, a well known knitwear designer.
I also
* Changed the cast on to something less stretchy.
*Used a smaller needle for the rib at the top and bottom for a closer fit.
*Adjusted the “short rows” for a deeper neckline.
* Added extra body rows for a longer length.
*Chose a tubular over a fitted sleeve.
If I’d make all of those adjustments for a better fit on a sweater why on earth wouldn’t I adjust a yoga practice to suit my individual body shape and needs as well?

The clocks have changed and the nights are darker.
Classes this week are all about nourishing practices that prepare us for winter.
Our main asana is “Goddess pose”.
In this posture we recall the goddess Persephone, destined to return to the underworld each winter leaving the earth barren and cold.
Inherent in that is also the knowledge that she will re-emerge next year and that Spring will come again.
Do come and join me at one of my sessions. They are running to schedule apart from Castleside on Sunday 2nd November.
