Birth is so much more than 'pain'

Let’s get this straight—birth isn’t just about pain, despite the likelihood that that's all you've heard about!

Birth is a full-body transformation.

Yes, you've heard that contractions can feel like a steamroller’s coming at you.
Yes, you've heard that pushing can feel a bit like trying to squeeze a watermelon out of a garden hose.

But let’s not forget, and what you likely don't hear so much about, if at all birth is.....
đŸ’« Deep, rolling waves of power.

đŸ’« A moment that stretches you (literally and figuratively).

Prioritising Your Post-Birth Recovery: It’s Essential, Not Selfish

Oh, the whirlwind of life with a newborn! Sleepless nights, endless feeding, and the constant wonder of “Am I doing this right?” (Spoiler: Yes, you are!)

But amidst the nappy changes and baby snuggles, can we talk about someone very important? You. Yes, YOU.

Your body has just done something incredible—grown and birthed a human. (Take a bow!) And now it needs a little TLC.

Prioritising your recovery isn’t selfish; it’s smart. In fact, it’s the best gift you can give your baby because a well-supported mum means a thriving baby.

Here’s the honest truth:
🌟 Birth—whether vaginal or by caesarean—is a big deal. Your body deserves rest, nourishment, and kindness.
🌟 The emotional rollercoaster of postpartum hormones? Yep, that’s real. Having support makes it easier to navigate.
🌟 Bonding with your baby is pure magic, but it’s even sweeter when you’re not running on fumes.

So, let’s get practical about your recovery:
✹ Rest: Nap when the baby naps—or at least put your feet up with a cuppa.
✹ Food: Nourish yourself with meals that actually fuel you (chocolate counts, right?).
✹ Hydration: Never underestimate the power of water
and tea.
✹ Gentle movement: A short stroll or a stretch can work wonders—when you’re ready, no rush!

During a birth preparation appointment I spent 3 hours with a client, it felt like 1 hour and her cat was determined to climb into my bag 😂

She had the opportunity to meet her 2nd supporter for her birth, a brilliant and very experienced doula.

We talked about her vision for her birth, what she felt comfortable with, and what she didn’t.

We had a warm drink and a general chat about mum life and what life with a newborn may be like, birth recovery and big pants (obvs an integral part of postnatal life đŸ€Ł)

We left no stone unturned, we talked about the chances of emergency scenarios happening and the management of those scenarios at home (which is her preferred place for birth), what a transfer to hospital may look like, how we can support her to optimise her birth experience, what birth may look like and everything and anything in between.

I absolutely love this way of working, completely and utterly ‘with woman’

Having a go to midwife who has the time to spend really getting to know, and understand you, makes all the difference to your birth experience!
