The official page of Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust providing regular news and updates The Trust is the second largest employer in Portsmouth.
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is one of the largest acute hospital trusts in the country treating over half a million patients each year. We provide comprehensive secondary care and specialist services to a local population of 675,000 people across South East Hampshire. We also offer some speciality services to a wider catchment of around two million people. Our population is characterised by its diversity – the rural and the urban, areas of wealth juxtaposed with real pockets of deprivation, and gaps in life expectancy. Most of our services are provided at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, but we also offer a range of outpatient and diagnostic facilities closer to patients’ homes in community hospital sites and at local treatment centres throughout South East Hampshire including St Mary's Treatment Centre, Gosport War Memorial Hospital and Petersfield Community Hospital. A big thank you to the Rapid Relief Team UK (RRT) for visiting Gosport UTC last month to host a special coffee morning in celebration of Emergency Services Appreciation Week. 🚑
The RRT, a volunteer-led charity that provides practical support and compassion to people in need, have previously supported Gosport UTC with homeless wash packs and blankets.
Their continued kindness and generosity were warmly received by staff, who appreciated the thoughtful refreshments and recognition. 💙

🎖️ Staff Spotlight: Lt Col Richard Yardley
This week we’re featuring Lieutenant Colonel Richard Yardley, Commanding Officer of Joint Hospital Group (South), a role that combines both military and clinical leadership.
Richard helps ensure military medical personnel are fully integrated within PHU, supporting patient care while maintaining their skills and readiness for deployment.
Richard says: “My role is to create the conditions that allow people to be the best versions of themselves.”
Recently, his unit was awarded the Freedom of the City of Portsmouth, recognising their dedication to both the Armed Forces and the local community.
When he’s not in uniform, Richard enjoys cycling, gardening, and travelling, finding these moments the perfect way to unwind and recharge.

We give thanks for their courage, sacrifice, and dedication in protecting the freedoms we hold dear. At 11am, we will join people across the nation in a moment of silence to reflect and remember.
Lest we forget. 🌹

One patient shared: “occupational herapists play such an important role… they help us get back to living independently again.”
