Sometimes the best therapy isn’t a place… it’s a moment.

Atmospheric sunrise, water, and silence.
A slow morning in the Kenyan savanna.

What if every day started like this? 🌅

Why might we avoid equinox gatherings?

Acknowledging shifts and pivotal moments, the equinox is a day suited to solitude because it represents a rare moment of balance between light and darkness.

Seasonal thresholds between phases of the year mark pauses within natural cycles and provide appropriate moments for reflection, contemplation, and the deliberate choice of silence.

Across historical traditions, moments of seasonal balance have frequently carried contemplative significance. In modern pagan practice, the festival of Ostara is associated with the spring equinox and invites individual meditation or personal rituals, whilst historical Greco-Roman and East Asian philosophies linked these moments to personal moderation and self-awareness. While other cultures have also celebrated the equinox collectively through seasonal festivals and agricultural rites, the symbolic balance of the day has long made it equally compatible with individual reflection and intentional solitude.

These are important days to be honoured in our calendar, acting as book ends for our own nature based programme rather than resistance through organised activities. Would you try a day of silence and solitude?

What do you know of fear?

Fear is one of the most ancient forms of awareness in the human brain.

Deep within the nervous system, there are networks designed to notice significance and prepare the body before conscious thought fully forms. Long before language or deliberate reasoning, this system allowed humans to orient themselves within a complex and changing world.

Fear can be understood as anticipation, our brain modelling possible futures and adjusting the body’s state in response.

More often it is knowing what could happen as a result of reminders carried from the past. Experiences leave traces that quietly inform how we interpret new moments, connecting memory with possibility.

Maurice Merleau-Ponty believed that awareness is never passive but shaped by the traces of past experience that guide how the present appears to us, meaning fear is less about threat and more about perception.

When we recognise the openness of the future, shaped gently by the memory of what has already been, we can send a new signal that consciousness is reaching beyond the present moment and imagining what lies ahead.

Teaching aquatic therapy in different parts of the world continues to deepen my understanding of water and its role in movement, support, and healing.

During a wilderness retreat in Kenya, working in and around water was a reminder of how profoundly it changes the way the body learns. Water reduces effort, supports the nervous system, and allows movement patterns to emerge that are often difficult to access on land.

These environments also teach something important about practice. When we slow down, listen to the body, and work with natural elements like water, learning becomes more intuitive and deeply embodied.

Grateful to bring this work to different landscapes and communities, and to keep learning from water wherever I go.

Have you ever tried aquatic therapy?

Ever played “Have You Ever?”

It starts as a simple game, but somehow it always turns into something else. One question leads to laughter, another brings out surprising stories, and suddenly you realise how many experiences everyone carries within them.

It’s funny how a small game can remind us that we’re all more connected than we think. Different paths, different moments… but so many shared feelings along the way.

Have you ever played a game that turned into a meaningful conversation?

Finding secure foundations with frank conversations in an unrivalled setting by the seaside and a sunny stroll along Fife Coastal Path.

Looking forward to our final Fireside Yoga before retreat week when we will be heading into the Roundal for some raised up rituals.
