We would like to invite family and friends to join us as we celebrate Mother's Day here at Astor Court.

In the morning, we will be hosting a lovely Tea & Cake Social, giving the residents and their loved ones the chance to spend some quality time together over a cup of tea or coffee and some sweet treats.

In the afternoon, residents will be getting creative with a Mother's Day artificial flower arranging activity, making their own beautiful arrangements to brighten their rooms or leave on display.

Family members and friends are very welcome to join us throughout the day and share in the celebrations with us. We look forward to celebrating all the wonderful mother's and mother figures in our home.

Our Lifestyle staff took the time to create a More...Sensory wall for our dementia unit at Astor Care Complex. They collected different sensory objects/materials which thought would be good for the board and then attached them securely and placed in the corridor for residents to notice.

This wall provides dementia residents with a safe, interactive, and stimulating environment to manage agitation, reduce anxiety, and improves overall mood.

There was lots of excitement in Astor Care Complex as both floors came together for our big game of classic bingo! This is one of our most popular activities for our residents. Eyes down, cards ready, plenty of sweating and some laughs as those living with us enjoyed the thrill of the game, friendly competition and the joy of winning prizes.

The room was full of cheerful faces, big smiles and some hearty competitive spirit. Such a lovely way to come together and create some fond memories of continuing on a tradition that most of our residents used to participate in every week. Having these moments to look forward too is so important!

We had the pleasure of welcoming our local church back into our home to host a beautiful church service. We always love how much this service brings us all together. A huge hank you to Tish and Mike we always love having you both here every month at Astor Court!

We also hosted our coffee morning which is always a hit, we set out delicious sweet treats and plenty hot drinks and enjoyed a lovely chat together. This allows our residents to be in a different environment and speak to individuals who they may not see or talk to all the time! We can't wait for the next one, make sure not to miss out on the 15th March (Mother's Day)!

We finished our long day with a couple of our residents going outside to catch the first bit of sunshine and then parachute games to release all of our energy! We always have such a laugh doing this activity and our residents (and staff) love to get involved. It is safe to say everybody had a fun packed day!

We had the opportunity to visit the lovely staff and students at Bede Academy Sixth Form for a fun packed morning. We started by painting our own versions of a beach which our residents enjoyed, it sparked memories of our favourite beach days and got us all excited for when the hot sunny weather finally arrives!

The students set up bingo for everybody to play and it didn't take long for our competitive sides to come out as always. We then completed a variety of word searches, then finally two of the music students popped in to sing us a lovely song to lift our moods even more!🎼

We would like to thank all the staff and students at Bede Academy Sixth Form for a lovely morning, we appreciate the efforts and hope to see you all again very soon!

Here at Astor Court, we celebrated Chinese New Year with a special treat for our residents with a delicious Chinese takeaway enjoyed together in great company!

The opportunity was offered to all residents, and those who wished to take part enjoyed a lovely evening filled with tasty food, a wonderful sense of togetherness and even some fortunes from traditional fortune cookies. It was a fantastic way to mark the occasion, try something a little different and celebrate culture through the joy of food.

What a beautiful Valentine's Day we've had at Astor Court, celebrating friendship, love and togetherness. The Lovely Kay joined us for a special valentine's sing-along, filling the room with classic love songs. It was a sold-out show! We were filled to the brim with all of our residents and families who came along, it was wonderful to see. There was plenty of singing, tow tapping and even some back up dancing!

Our residents enjoyed some valentines mocktails, and the whole place was decorated to make it feel extra special. Lots of smiles and treats shared throughout the day. As it wouldn't be Valentine's Day without some chocolate!

Moments like this remind us that it isn't just about romance, its about More...Connection, memories and feeling loved. And there was certainly a lot of love in the air.

Some of our lovely residents enjoyed a group trip out on the minibus to the amazing Blue Reef Aquarium on Tynemouth sea front, and what a gorgeous morning it was.

From colourful tropical fish to fascinating sea creatures, there was so much to see and talk about. The underwater tunnel was definitely a highlight, watching the fish glide above our heads! There was lots of smiles, conversation sparks and shared memories from the different marine life. Days like these are so important, getting out in some fresh air, experiencing something new and enjoying time together.

We had a walk around and managed to catch the river monsters show, in which we got to watch feeding time for some huge fish! After that we all went for a small rest in the cafe with a nice hot drink (well deserved!) before having another walk around.

A big thank you to our staff team and Miley Tours for supporting this trip and making sure everyone had a safe, comfortable and enjoyable day. We're already looking forward to our next one!

Today at Astor it was all about Random acts of kindness day.

The Lifestyle Team brought More...Connection to the home with a variety of flowers.

Then one of our wonderful residents wanted to spread some happiness around the home. Together we made a box of kind and thoughtful quotes.

We went round all the staff & residents all taking a quote for them to keep. It was a lovely thing for one of the lovely ladies living with us to do as her act of kindness.

Those living with us had an absolute blast getting creative with a DIY slingshot game! Using a facemask and some ping-pong balls, everyone took turns aiming for different sized buckets to score points.

It was fantastic for hand-eye coordination, laughter and some good old friendly compeition to get that blood pumping. Lots of group support with clapping and cheers when the hardest bucket was scored. It sparked some amazing concentration between our residents.

Sometimes its about what you can make with what you have, this wasnt a game any of the residents had seen or played before and its safe to say it was a big hit all round.

Well done to our sharpshooters today! Who knew a mask and some ping-pong balls could bring so much fun!

Those living with us took part in a colourful coordination and More...Movement activity that was a whole lot of fun!

We placed different coloured plates on the floor; each worth different points and residents worked on their aim and coordination by throwing balloons onto the plates to score points. There were plenty of laughs and some gentle competition.

This activity is brilliant for hand-eye coordination, gentle movement, focus and confidence. With it most importantly putting big smiles on each residents faces.

Well done to our residents for giving it a go!
