Save Rammell Field - Cranbrook RAMMELL FIELD - CRANBROOK WAR MEMORIAL FIELD - NOT TO BE BUILT ON!!!

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council are currently planning to build an extra 300 houses in Cranbrook and Sissinghurst. The War Memorial Field (aka Rammell Field) is a possible site for a number of houses (up to 104 we have been told). This field is a Memorial Field which was left to the community of Cranbrook in 1919, a letter addressed all Cranbrookians asking for generosity and appealed for funds in support of the scheme to build a small chapel on the Memorial Field in memory of the 55 Cranbrookians who lost their lives in the Great War and a further 250 Cranbrookians who also served but were spared their lives. The Community raised £859 13 shillings and 6 pence but support from the community was not there to build the chapel. It was then decided that a cricket field would be purchased with this money... but this did not happen either. After Cranbrook School came into a little bit of trouble, and lost their football field, it was agreed that Memorial Field would be purchased for the sum of £700 for the use of the school, but the War Memorial Field funds raised would be the ones used. With the rest of the money it was proposed that a new double gate would be built in the corner of the field and they would put in good order the hedges around the field. A record of these facts is inscribed on small tablets in the Bursar's Accounts Department and reads:

"WITH THE FUNDS SUBSCRIBED FOR THIS MEMORIAL
A PLAYING FIELD WAS PURCHASED FOR THE USE OF THE SCHOOL IN PERPETUITY"

The definition of "Perpetuity" is Forever, passed down through eternity. Therefore this field must not be built on and the community of Cranbrook do have a say over what happens to this field. MAKE A STAND WITH US AND MAKE SURE RAMMELL FIELD IS LEFT AS IT WAS INTENDED - TUNBRIDGE WELLS BOROUGH COUNCIL HAVE BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE SLY ABOUT THIS... The Save Rammell Field group have met this evening - The one week countdown has started and this time next week we should know if our application for The War Memorial Field (aka Rammell Field) to be a village green has been successful or not.

Like last year's Parish Council meeting, we need our loyal supporters to show their support on the day. Tuesday 5th March 2013 is THE day! 11.15am at at the beautiful field itself. This is not the "meeting" itself, it is the site visit. We need your support for no more than 5 or 10 minutes whilst the Committee members are there, to show the "people power" behind us. This visit will be followed by the meeting of the Regulation Committee Member Panel to come to their final decision. The meeting is at Staplehurst village hall at 12.30 - it would be great to make the presence of our supporters felt there as well for those who are able to make it.

We realise this is at an awkward time in the middle of the day, when many of us will be hard at work, but anyone who can make it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks for your ongoing support & best wishes,

The Save Rammell Field group.

Hello to everyone - Happy 2013!!!

It's been a while but we have news... On the Tuesday 5th March 2013 at 11.15am, the Regulation Committee Panel will be making a visit to Rammell Field prior to their meeting in Staplehurst to discuss the suitability of Rammell Field, The War Memorial Field as a Village Green... This meeting will be likely to have a big impact on the finaly decision.

If anyone can make it down there just to show how much support our campaign to prevent building on the memorial field has - that would be great!!! As ever; Thank you all for your continued support.

Best wishes,

The Save Rammell Field Group.

Hello Everyone!

We would like to thank everyone who came to the hugely successful Parish Council Meeting held last night!

Howard Cox, the leader of our group started the public's view with a our campaign statement (you can view this on our website by using the link below. Many members of the public and supporters of our group also then stood and voiced their opinions, as well as a member of the Trustees of the Memorial Field and Cranbrook School's head teacher.

After all that the Parish Council voted as to whether they will support the village green application we put forward or go against it, the result was 9 supporters, 5 against which means the Parish Council WILL be supporting the possibility of Cranbrook School War Memorial Field being Cranbrook Village Green!

Thank you to everyone that spoke so passionately about the field and everyone who showed their support simply by being there. This is a very important win for us to start with but we still have a long way to go in order to save the Rammell field from development in the future so please keep supporting us!

Thanks for everything and best wishes!

Dear Save Rammell Field Group Supporters,

Things are moving a pace with regard to our campaign to prevent development on the War Memorial Field (aka Rammell Field). We now have a website to canvas opinion and keep you informed. Howard Cox, a resident of Rammell Mews has built the website www.rammellfield.com for all of us to keep abreast of the situation and to interact with each other about this deeply worrying issue. So, please pass this link onto all your friends and contacts to sign up to the petition on-line. We currently have 1500 signatures, it would be fantastic if we could double this number in the next few months. Your help is vital to achieving this. There is a Blog on the website which allows you to add your views and opinions for all to see.

In addition Howard has written (like many of us) to the Parish Council as to why they have decided not to support our “Village Green” application at their last meeting in March, despite their support last October. He has challenged the council on a point of order to which he has had the following response from Peter North, Chairman of the Parish Council:

Dear Howard. Thank you for your email which I have considered and taken advice upon. The standing orders adopted by our parish council are basically for our guidance only and as such are non-statutory, however I believe firmly that any council should respect the integrity of their standing orders. You have correctly pointed out our error in respect to the five month period laid down before we can reconsider a resolution, and albeit we have done so within a few days and with the best intentions; we are nevertheless within the prescribed period. This coupled with the fact that rules on disclosure have been amended by The Localism Bill has led me to decide that this item will be revisited by the Parish Council at our meeting on 12th April 2012. I look forward to seeing you there. In view of the interest this subject is likely to create and in order to accommodate the anticipated number of parishioners, I have changed the venue of the meeting to the Vestry Hall. Best regards. Peter

It is important that we get as many people as possible to attend the meeting at the Vestry Hall in Cranbrook on the 12th April 2012 at 7:30pm to show support for the campaign and challenge the council to change their opposition to the application. Howard has been asked to speak on our behalf. We really need as many people as possible to attend. So if you want to come please go to the website and complete the form to let us know how many will be attending. We will notify the press and hopefully as a result the Council will change their mind and support the “Village Green” application. Please go to this link if you will be attending: http://www.rammellfield.com/request_1.html

So, everyone who can make it, please get the date in your diaries and attend the meeting at the Vestry Hall in Cranbrook with us on the 12th April 2012 at 7:30pm – also don’t forget to complete the form on our website: http://www.rammellfield.com/request_1.html

As ever, thank you all for your support, keep spreading the message and get all to sign up to the campaign on our new website!!

Best wishes,

Save Rammell Field Group

Dear Save Rammell Field Group Supporters,

It has been a while since we last had news to update you with so we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas & New Year!

We now have some important news to update you with – in the Summer of 2011 we submitted an application for the War Memorial Field (aka Rammell Field) to gain Village Green status, which essentially means it is protected and would continue to be used as it is at the moment (for family fun days, Rugby matches etc.). We submitted all of our evidence to show why we believe the War Memorial Field (aka Rammell Field) should be awarded the status of “Village Green”. Our application has now been accepted by Kent County Council and is now an official application for village green status.

Kent County Council now have a window of opportunity for representations to be made by the public to reflect your views, feelings and evidence of using the War Memorial Field. So, the next step in the process of our application is for members of the public to submit your views of the War Memorial Field (aka Rammell Field) becoming a Village Green. This must be done by Monday 5th March 2012 by e-mail or by post (details can be found at the bottom of this email).

Kent County Council have displayed on the gate to the War Memorial Field (aka Rammell Field) the “Notice Of Application For The Registration Of Land As A Village Green” which gives full details of this stage of the process. If you are not able to visit the War Memorial Field (aka Rammell Field) and would like to see this document, please do send a reply to this e-mail and we can send an attachment.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your support of our fight already and to encourage you to express your views around our application for Village Green status (whether it is in support of our application or an objection). It is not often publicized very well that the public are invited to express their views around these types of things.
