Yesterday I was at Haydock Park (not for the horses!) with colleagues learning about some new injection techniques which can help with Heel Pain and Mortons Neuroma (Pinched nerve). Today and tomorrow I am at our annual conference in lovely Liverpool, the Foot and Ankle conferemce to do some more learning and catching up with friends and colleagues, perhaps for a beer or two . 😉 Learning never stops, and every year I learn new things which keeps the brain ticking over and helps me to help my patients so they can stay active and healthy.

In my latest newsletter, as we look towards Spring, I am talking about Spring walking shoes, how to start trail running, how to deal with ankle sprains and introducing our new Physiotherapy service which I am very excited about!

We are also focusing on our laser and shockwave therapy units which we have had great success in getting people pain free and back to activity.

What I like and what I don't like about the treadmill.

Likes: It is a great tool for me to assess runners in controlled conditions.

It is a useful tool for getting runners back to running after injury.

When the rain is lashing down outside it is a safe and dry option!

Dislikes: It is quite boring!

The repetitive nature of treadmill running could aggravate certain injuries.

It keeps you indoors when you should be outside enjoying nature.

What do you think? Are you on Team Treadmill? Or is it the 'Dreadmill' for you? Let me know in the comments below.

January is one of the busiest months I see for new aches and pains.

It is rarely bad luck.

Most problems start because exercise activity increases faster than the body can adapt. Often due to Christmas guilt!

Tissues like the plantar fascia, Achilles tendon and calf muscles need time to adjust to an increase in load so start out slow and build up.

If something feels niggly , that is often the best time to act before it becomes too painful.

Give me a shout if you need any advice

A sprinkling of snow at Park Run this morning making conditions a bit tricky underfoot in places.

The secret to running safely in the snow is to take shorter steps, avoid overstriding, and place your foot firmly with each step. A snowy course is not the time to push for a PB so ease off and enjoy Winter’s beauty!

Is snow a go or no go for you? How did you get on if you were out there today? Let me know in the comments

New Year’s Day orienteering in Dunorlan Park. Cold but fun and good to start 2026 with some exercise. Did you get out there on New Year’s Day or stay indoors and nurse the hangover? Let me know in the comments.
