This week is Grief Awareness Week in the UK.

Grief can be debilitating and come with a range of complex and sometimes unsettling emotions like guilt or even relief. This can be especially true if you have lost a loved one after a long-term illness.

We can find it challenging to talk about grief, particularly in complex circumstances such as baby loss or bereavement by su***de.

Please get in touch if you are dealing with grief in any way and need a hand finding your way again πŸ’œ

December is all about raising awareness for Seasonal Affective Disorder. ☁️

This is a specific type of depression that comes and goes in a seasonal pattern. Whilst it can happen at any time of year, it is typically more apparent and severe during the winter months. 🌨️

While the specific causes are unknown, some factors, such as reduced sunlight, are thought to play a role in affecting serotonin levels and the circadian rhythm. πŸŒ™

Some of the signs and symptoms of SAD are:
- Feeling depressed most of the time
- Losing interest in activities you used to enjoy
- Low levels of energy
- Problems sleeping
- Weight and appetite changes

Whether you suffer from SAD, or just need a helping hand with the winter blues, here are a few of my favourite tips.

If you're finding any of the above symptoms resonate with you and you'd like to talk it over with someone, please do get in touch for a free phone consultation. I'm here to help! πŸ’œ

Are you navigating Christmas and grief? Perhaps this is the first year there's a spare seat at the table? Or maybe you'd like to know how to support a friend or family member who has lost someone.

Whether it’s your first Christmas without a loved one, or they died many years ago, you might find your grief can feel particularly intense throughout the Christmas season.

I hope the ideas in this month's newsletter offer you a little guidance and comfort during this time. But it's okay if you aren't ready to read this quite yet. Bereavement is a difficult journey and must be taken at your own pace. πŸ’œ

The next few weeks can be difficult for those of us who struggle with food.

We are approaching the season of over-indulgence, swiftly followed by a wave of crash diets, juice cleanses, and New Year's Gym memberships.

If you've been dreaming of a healthier, fitter (and maybe slimmer) body, why not start now?

Awesome Body Plan is not a diet but a way for you to make healthier choices for yourself. It’s all about reprogramming your mind to make healthier choices to support your weight-reduction goals and achieve your desired body. By changing your relationship with food, we will build your inner confidence.

You'll then be free to reach your goals and maintain the awesome body you decide is right for you.

If you'd like to find out more, please do get in touch. I'd be happy to help! πŸ’œ

Are you avoiding medical treatment because of a fear of needles and injections?

Maybe you've received your winter flu jab invite, but have put it off?

Whilst it might seem like an easily avoidable phobia, trypanophobia can prevent you from visiting the dentist, seeking medical treatments such as blood tests, or even travelling (if you can't get the required vaccinations!).

If you want to feel calm and comfortable next time you need an injection or blood test, I can help.

When talking to people who are in the first stages of asking for help, one concern that comes up frequently is the potentially lengthy, open-ended commitment to therapy and the financial implications that come with that. ⏰

I want to reassure you that during our initial free phone consultation, I will give you a suggested number of sessions we'll need together. For many clients, this can be just one.

If you'd like to find out how I can help, please do get in touch. πŸ’œ

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, low mood, stress, or low self-confidence?

Many of us find our mood drops with the reduced daylight hours and colder weather.

Whilst I can't change the weather (unfortunately!) I can offer a free audio recording on my website to help with relaxation and well-being! πŸ’œ

All this week is Self-Care Week, a topic that's very important to me.

One thing I say to my clients is that self-care is not selfish. Taking care of yourself puts you in a better position to help others - you can't pour from an empty cup.

Sometimes self-care is taking a walk, enjoying a Yoga class, getting an early night, or having a relaxing bath. But it can also be asking for help, or taking steps to look after your health, like giving up smoking or alcohol.

However self-care looks for you, please make sure you take some time for yourself!

A common anxiety or phobia I work with is a fear of the dentist. 🦷

In fact, some studies have found that up to 53% of the UK population suffers from fear or anxiety when visiting the dentist.

Years of avoidance and missed appointments can have severe consequences for both oral and mental health.

For one of my clients, a 50-year dental phobia was resolved in under 90 minutes online via Zoom.

A fantastic result πŸ’œ

Autumn teaches us that it's okay to let go!

Whether that's old habits, pain, trauma, or anxieties - it's beautiful to let go.

Could you spot these 4 subtle signs that show someone might be struggling with their mental health?

πŸ”Ή Are they going through any significant life events right now?
πŸ”Ή Are they turning down invites to things they'd normally attend?
πŸ”Ή Are they drinking a lot (or using other substances)?
πŸ”Ή Messaging you in the middle of the night?

November is Men's Health Month, which is such an important topic because men, in particular, find it harder to ask for help for mental health.

These signs might be easy to miss if you don't know what to look for, but starting a conversation doesn't have to be difficult.

πŸ”· Drop them a message
πŸ”· Invite them for a walk, a drive, a kick about in the park (it can be easier to have difficult conversations when you're side by side rather than face-to-face)
πŸ”· Arrange a catch-up for later that week.
πŸ”· Leave them space to share their feelings.

And if they aren't okay, let them know there are plenty of services ready to help!

You can forward them my contact details. All of my services are completely confidential, and you will never be judged for asking for help.

Did you know that stress does more than just affect our minds?

It can affect our entire bodies, from our brains to our muscles and digestive systems.

The stress response puts our bodies into a state of fight or flight. Over time, this puts our organs under strain, particularly our heart, circulation, and digestive system.

You might think that stress is an unavoidable part of our busy modern lives, but it doesn't have to be. If you're struggling, I'm here to help.
