Today I had the pleasure of meeting . He has been selected as a possible donor match in stem cells. So incredibly brave in both senses as he’s not keen on needles, but who is eh? Partnering up with allows me to see a wider range of patients from different companies. DKMS being one of them. Let me tell you a little more about them….

DKMS is an international charity dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders.
We sign people up to the stem cell register, provide second chances at life for those in need of a transplant, and raise funds to cover donor registration costs.
DKMS launched in the UK in 2013. We are the biggest stem cell register in the UK. We have registered over 1 million blood stem cell donors to date and helped to give over 2,500 people a second chance at life.
Over 2,000 people each year in the UK need a blood stem cell transplant, however, just 7% of the entire eligible population in the UK are registered as potential donors. Only a tiny proportion of these potential donors are from minority ethnic communities.
That’s why we exist. The more people who register as blood stem cell donors, the better the chance for someone in need of a blood stem cell transplant.
To date, worldwide, DKMS has registered over 12.5 million potential blood stem cell donors, and over 125,000 second chances at life have been provided by DKMS.

We will be fundraising throughout the year for this charity as well as others we currently support. We will also have DKMS information leaflets in clinic. Please keep an eye out for a day where we will open the clinic for a day with staff from DKMS where you can register and swab on the day. Be the change you wish to see in the world today

Had an amazing day training with the new . Huge thank you to Tyrone (sorry about the whales).
Cannot wait to get going with this especially with my skin. I had a light treatment today just to see how my skin handles it, then hopefully have a plan going forward.
Overall a great day spent with great people and a fantastic new machine/service .

It’s September which means it’s childhood cancer awareness month. As most of you know this is something that affected me back in 2018. One of THE MOST anxious and frightening times I’ve ever experienced. Today he started his final year at St Wilfrids. I’m incredibly proud of him. But, we still need a cure, no child should have to suffer the way they do. Families I met along my son’s journey didn’t come home with their children, it was utterly heartbreaking.
