How do you flatten the mental health curve at home?

How do you stay ahead of the game to offer the best support to families?

As we exit lockdown and resume a semblance of normality mental health has become the buzz word of the moment. But, how do we ensure that we are actually planning for mental health and not just playing lip service to the current trending terminology?

In this blog, I explore mental health timelines and 6 steps you can take to support families at home to flatten the mental health curve.

Quite understandably, Brian is a popular feature in our therapy office.

Brian is our inhouse therapy dog, and whilst he is just wonderful, he does need a rest from seeing everyone to be spoilt and fill his own happiness quota

As we work through the aftermath of the pandemic, recognising the warning signs that our children, teenagers and ourselves might be struggling with our mental health is paramount.

Keeping an eye out for signs such as:
*change in sleep routines
*change in eating habits
*loss of interest in hobbies, interests or friends
*lack of desire to socialise, or leave the house
*withdraw, aggressive or despondent behaviours
*signs of anxiety, fear or worry about previously enjoyed activities
*nightmares, difficulty sleeping
*regression in development or to habit based behaviours
*expressing worries, negative thoughts or fears
*ritualistic behaviours
*fears for safety and security
*changes in personality or normal behaviours or interactions

Whilst the list is not exhaustive, being aware of the changes and catching them early, to put in place appropriate therapeutic support is key to helping our families cope with the ongoing changes over the coming months.
