Why did I become a therapist?

Through my late teens and 20s I battled with disordered eating. Having lost 6 stone I became obsessed with exercise and calories, often combatting eating with more exercise. However I was fit and looked relatively healthy (clothed) so it was well hidden most of the time. Comments of 'you're too thin' were combatted with binges and more exercise creating a cycle that would take years to break and conventional therapy just did NOT help. It wasn't about weight it was about control, as my personal life had too many things going on I couldn't control food and exercise was all I had.

Having made a recovery I wanted to help others, to offer something out of nhs convention. I enrolled to become a counsellor but the course was initially hypnotherapy and the rest as they say is history....

'I read that....'
'Did you see that....'

Isn't it funny how in the space of 10 years we have stopped communicating? Taken to assuming? Think that we know what someone is dealing with based on a some photos on a newsfeed?

Then, when we find out it isn't the case, we feel shocked? BUT we didn't actually ask them how they were?

If you make one resolution - make it to connect with people, one of your friends might need you more that you could ever realise....

Some days our emotions can prevent us seeing a situation from the point of truth...

Which often leads to disputes, arguments or disagreements....

Sometimes, our emotional reactions aren't even true to the situation - they can be linked to other experiences, or past experiences that we are projecting onto what is in front of us...

Getting clear on what we are feeling, exploring why we are feeling and then reviewing the perspective we are looking at things from can change the outcomes of so many situations....

So often, when talking about children with ADHD we hear words such as ‘daydreamer’, ‘distracted’, ‘absent minded’ and in the worst case scenarios words such as ‘lazy’. However, ADHD is, at its heart, an aversion to boredom. Long periods of sitting, listening, with no action create he...

Every child's therapy sessions are unique to them. Therefore, you cannot compare one child's results with another as the triggers, reasons and background are all very different.

Whilst one child's anxiety may be resolved in one session, another may take 3 or 4, there is no prediction for this.

Most children require 1-4 sessions, more complex issues may require ongoing sessions for a longer period.
