There us a poem "When all around me is troubled, I think of ducks" In such strange times as we now face i find myself focussing on the small things to find joy, listening to the birdsong, watching the sunlight create beautiful shadows. It is an art each day to find those moments of joy to sustain you through this chaos. But most importantly, talk to someone, anyone, to connect to real life.
I found myself having a long chat with a lovely older man who I didn't know and had never met, a stranger passing at a distance who stopped near my gate. I learnt of his childhood, his interests , a little of his history and we found a common connection. All this in an unexpected 15 minute casual passing chat. If I hadn't been locked down, slowed down, I would have hurried the conversation on to get on with something that didn't really matter. Instead we gave each other time, we connected and I realised afterwards I felt uplifted.
Stop and talk always, not just now. That has been my lesson so far.
