I am curious, when buying supplements why do people buy on price and ignore the ingredient list on the back?
I have just been talking to a guy from Sheffield who said he was buying Graminex for the Rye Grass Pollen Extract content to help with his BPH and Prostatitus but it wasn't working.

I asked him to read the ingredient list on the back of the Graminex, no specific Rye Grass Pollen listed just a general Secale cereale listing. Graminex is sold as flower pollen, which he hadn't bothered to check.

I then checked on the Prosta-Rye ingredient list which he said he also used, it reads, Rye (Flower Pollen) Graminex 20:1 9mg, Maca Root 75mg.

My interest in this? As a Trustee of Prostate Aid CIC we sell Rye Grass Pollen Extract specifically for BPH and chronic nonbacterial prostatitis.

Our product ingedient label simply states Per Vegetable Cellulose Capsule: Rye Grass Pollen Extract 20:1: 500mg.

That's it, nothing else and he hadn't read our ingredient list either, purchasing Graminex or Prosta-Rye as it was slightly cheaper, so to return to my original question when buying supplements why do people buy on price and ignore the ingredient list on the back?

Can Prostate Cancer Be Cured?
Understanding Treatment, Remission, and Hope for Men’s Health
When a man is diagnosed with prostate cancer, one of the first
questions he — and his loved ones — will ask is:
“Can it be cured?”
It’s a natural and urgent concern. The answer, like many things in
medicine, is nuanced. But there is good reason for hope.
What Does “Cure” Mean in Cancer?
In medical terms, a cure usually means that the cancer has been
completely eliminated and will not return. However, many specialists
prefer the word remission, particularly for cancers like prostate cancer that
may return years later.
Because prostate cancer often grows slowly, many men live long, healthy
lives after treatment — and in some cases, it doesn’t even need to be
treated right away.
The Good News: Many Prostate Cancers Can Be Cured
When diagnosed early — before it has spread outside the prostate —
prostate cancer is one of the most treatable cancers.
Nearly 100% of men with early-stage prostate cancer survive for 5 years or
more.
Many men never experience recurrence after treatment.
Common curative treatments include:
• Surgery (radical prostatectomy)
• Radiotherapy (external beam radiation)
• Brachytherapy (internal radiation)
• HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) and other focal
therapies
These treatments are often successful at eliminating the cancer entirely,
especially when caught early.
What If It’s Advanced or Has Spread?
When prostate cancer spreads to the bones, lymph nodes, or beyond, it’s
considered advanced or metastatic. A full “cure” may be less likely — but
long-term control is often possible.
Modern treatments help many men live well for years:
• Hormone therapy (androgen deprivation)
• Chemotherapy
• Targeted treatments and immunotherapy
• Clinical trials exploring the next generation of therapies
Even without a full cure, many men manage their condition successfully
and maintain good quality of life.
Holistic Support and Lifestyle Matter Too
While medical care is the foundation, natural and lifestyle support can
make a big difference in how men feel during and after treatment.
Supportive steps include:
• Eating a plant-rich diet (tomatoes, broccoli, green tea,
pomegranate)
• Using evidence-based herbal supplements like:
o Lycopene
o Modified Citrus Pectin
o Beta Sitosterol
o Saw Palmetto
• Staying active
• Managing stress
• Maintaining a healthy weight
At Prostate Aid CIC, we promote honest, science-guided natural support —
no inflated promises, just trustworthy supplements and expert-backed
insights.
Early Action Saves Lives
So — can prostate cancer be cured?
Yes, in many cases it can. Especially when detected early, it’s one of the
most treatable forms of cancer in men.
If you’re over 50 — or over 45 with a family history — speak to your GP

Fake Products
Buyer’s Checklist: How to Spot Genuine Maritime Pine Bark & Pygeum africanum
Scientific Name: Pinus pinaster
Most Researched Form: Pycnogenol® (standardised extract)
✅ What to Look For:
• Botanical name clearly stated: Pinus pinaster
Standardisation: 65–75% procyanidins (or “proanthocyanidins”) Source origin: France (Landes region) or Mediterranean coast
• Trademark mention (if applicable): “Pycnogenol®” — ensures it’s from the clinically tested source
• Transparent label: No vague “Maritime Pine Bark Extract” without species name
⚠️ Common Substitutes
Substitute Latin Name Typical Origin Why It’s Used Key Differences Masson Pine Pinus massoniana China Cheaper bulk raw material Fewer human trials, different flavonoid profile
Loblolly Pine Pinus taeda USA Inexpensive forestry byproduct Less clinical evidence for human health
Mixed Pine Bark Various Mixed batches from global suppliers Very low cost Inconsistent potency & composition
❌ Red Flags on Labels
• Only says “French Maritime Pine Bark Extract or Pine Bark Extract” with no Latin name No mention of standardisation (percent procyanidins) Dramatic claims without reference to human clinical trials
• Chinese Manufactured Low Cost Tablets, not capsules
• No origin stated “Proprietary blend” with undisclosed percentages
💡 Why This Matters
• Most circulation, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory research uses Pinus pinaster extracts — not substitutes.
• Using non-pinaster pine bark means you cannot rely on the same clinical outcomes.
• Transparency in sourcing is part of product integrity — and builds customer trust.

Pygeum africanum — now more accurately known as Prunus africana — is considered vulnerable and at risk of becoming endangered due to overharvesting and habitat loss, particularly in parts of Central and Eastern Africa.
🔍 Conservation Status: IUCN Red List: Vulnerable CITES: Listed in Appendix II, meaning international trade is regulated to avoid utilization incompatible with the species' survival.
🌿 Why Is It At Risk? High Demand for Prostate Health Supplements
Prunus africana bark is rich in phytosterols (especially β-sitosterol) and other compounds shown to help with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and urinary tract symptoms. Its popularity in Europe and North America for men's health has led to aggressive harvesting.
⚠️ Important Ingredient Integrity Notice
Due to rising global demand and limited sustainable supply, some suppliers are marketing products labelled simply as “Pygeum” that may not contain authentic Pygeum africanum (Prunus africana) bark extract. In some cases, unrelated or diluted materials are substituted without clear botanical identification.
We only use genuine, CITES-compliant Pygeum africanum extract, responsibly harvested from verified sources to ensure both efficacy and sustainability. https://prostateaidcic.com/products/pygeum-africanum

Pygeum Africanum, African tree bark extract shown to reduce inflammation and improve flow in men with enlarged prostates or prostatitis. Pure, CITES Compliant.

Misleading Prostate Ads Banned – Trusted Support Matters
Recent rulings by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) have banned misleading ads for some prostate supplements and home testing kits. Some of these products falsely claimed to treat prostate problems or diagnose prostate cancer, risking men’s health by steering them away from proper medical advice.
The ASA has banned advertisements from Self Check and Lifelab after determining that claims suggesting prostate-specific antigen (PSA) home tests could diagnose or rule out prostate cancer were unacceptable and risked misleading consumers. The regulator stated that such claims could divert individuals from seeking appropriate medical advice.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) also banned ads for four supplement brands – Nutrisslim, Nutreance, Muxue Trade and Impact Herbs – for making claims that their products could treat medical issues.
At Prostate Aid CIC, we welcome this action. Our mission is to provide clear, evidence-based support for men’s health. Supplements cannot cure prostate issues, and at-home PSA kits are an indicator of prostate problems, not a substitute for clinical cancer testing.
We encourage men to:
• Speak directly with their GP about prostate concerns.
• Understand that early prostate cancer often has no symptoms.
• Use trusted resources like Prostate Cancer UK’s Risk Checker to assess personal risk.
Honest information saves lives. Prostate Aid CIC works hard to ensure men get the right advice, at the right time. www.prostateaidcic.com

Understanding Prostatitis
Prostatitis is inflammation and swelling of the prostate gland. The prostate sits just below the bladder and surrounds the urethra, the tube that carries urine out of the body. While prostatitis can be painful and disruptive, it is usually not dangerous and often improves with appropriate care.
Prostatitis may be short-term or long-lasting. Some men experience severe, sudden symptoms, while others develop chronic pelvic pain that persists for months.
Types of Prostatitis
🔸 Acute bacterial prostatitis
A sudden, severe infection when bacteria enter the prostate from the urinary tract. Symptoms often include fever, chills, and significant pain. This requires urgent medical treatment.
🔸 Chronic bacterial prostatitis
A low-grade, recurring infection. Symptoms may come and go for several months.
🔸 Chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS)
The most common form. It causes ongoing pelvic, ge***al, or urinary discomfort but is not caused by a bacterial infection.
🔸 Asymptomatic prostatitis
Inflammation with no symptoms, usually discovered during routine health tests. It does not require treatment.
Prostatitis vs Enlarged Prostate
Although both conditions affect the prostate, they are different:
• Prostatitis = inflammation, often painful
• Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) = gradual enlargement that obstructs urine flow
Prostatitis does not increase your risk of prostate cancer.
What Causes Prostatitis?
Causes vary depending on the type:
✔️ Bacterial prostatitis may result from:
• UTIs, bladder infections
• Bladder or prostate stones
• STIs
• Catheter use
• Pelvic injury
✔️ CPPS (non-bacterial) may be linked to:
• Pelvic floor dysfunction
• Nerve sensitivity or injury
• Immune or autoimmune responses
• Stress
• Irritants in urine
In many cases, the exact cause is unknown.
Risk Factors
You are more likely to develop prostatitis if you:
• Have frequent UTIs
• Have had prostatitis before
• Have a pelvic injury
• Use a urinary catheter
• Are over 50 with an enlarged prostate
Symptoms
Acute Bacterial Prostatitis
⚠️ Seek urgent medical help if you experience these:
• Fever, chills, body aches
• Painful urination, burning or trouble starting
• Weak or blocked urine stream
• Nausea or vomiting
• Pain behind the sc***um or lower back
Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis
• Painful urination
• Urinary urgency, especially at night
• Pain on ej*******on
• Groin, testicular, or lower abdominal pain
Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS)
• Pain for more than 3 months in the p***s, sc***um, perineum, or lower belly
• Pain with urination or ej*******on
• Frequent or urgent urination
• Weak flow
Diagnosis
Your doctor may perform:
• Medical history and physical exam
• Prostate exam
• Urine tests
• Blood tests
• Semen analysis
• Ultrasound or cystoscopy
• Referral to a urologist for specialist assessment
Treatment Options
Medical Management
✔️ Antibiotics (for bacterial causes)
✔️ Pain relievers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol
✔️ Medications for chronic pain
✔️ Erectile-function medicines if needed
✔️ Catheterisation if unable to pass urine
Therapies and Support
• Prostate massage or regular ej*******on to improve drainage
• Pelvic floor physiotherapy
• Stress management and psychological support
Lifestyle Approaches
• Reduce caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods
• Drink plenty of water
• Warm “sitz baths”
• Use cushions when sitting for long periods
• Gentle exercise to improve circulation and mood

🔹 Rye Grass Pollen Extract
Historically studied in Europe for chronic prostatitis, pelvic pain, and urinary flow. Some studies show improved quality of life and reduced pelvic pressure.
Relevant for: CPPS, urinary hesitancy, pelvic discomfort.
🔹 Maritime Pine Bark Extract (Antioxidant & Circulation Support)
Helps improve microcirculation and reduce oxidative stress. May support pelvic tissue recovery and reduce inflammation contributing to chronic pelvic pain.
Relevant for: CPPS, chronic pain, circulatory contributors.
When to Seek Medical Advice
Contact a doctor if you develop:
• Persistent pelvic pain
• Frequent or urgent urination
• Painful urination or ej*******on
• Fever or chills
• Difficulty passing urine
Seek urgent care if you cannot urinate, have blood in urine or semen, or develop severe fever and pain.
Key Takeaway
Prostatitis is inflammation of the prostate that can cause pain, urinary symptoms, and significant discomfort. With medical guidance, lifestyle adjustments, and supportive therapies—including targeted supplements—most men recover or gain meaningful symptom relief.

How Do I Prevent Prostate Cancer? A Straight-Talking Guide for Men
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Risk rises after age 50, and men of African or Caribbean heritage face a significantly higher risk. Family history also matters. You cannot change your age, your genetics, or your race. You can take control of your lifestyle and awareness.
Food Choices Matter
Some foods protect the prostate by reducing inflammation and supporting healthy cell growth.
Include more of these:
• Tomatoes and tomato products
• Broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage
• Pomegranate, berries and other fruit rich in colour
• Green tea
• Beans, whole grains and nuts
Try to rely less on:
• Red and processed meats • High-fat dairy
• Fried or ultra processed foods
• Too much salt or sugar
Even small shifts make a difference. Choose more fruit or whole grains.
Keep Moving
Exercise lowers the risk of aggressive prostate cancer. It also supports mental health, weight control and sleep quality.
• Walk briskly • Take stairs when possible
Consistency beats intensity. Ten minutes daily is better than one hour once a week.
Manage Your Weight and Waistline
Excess weight raises risk. Fat tissue increases inflammation and disrupts hormones. You do not need to become lean overnight. Focus on steady progress. Healthier food choices and regular movement help a lot.
Helpful Nutrients
Some nutrients have been studied for their role in prostate cell protection.
Useful examples include:
• Lycopene from tomatoes
• Zinc from nuts, seeds and whole grains
• Selenium from whole grains and eggs.
• Polyphenols from green tea and pomegranate
Supplements can help, but food sources still count.
Know Your Body and Speak Up
Catching problems early saves lives. Tell your GP if you notice:
• Difficulty passing urine
• Going more often, especially at night
• Weak flow or stopping and starting
• Blood in urine or semen
• Pain in your lower back, pelvis or testicles
Men over 50 should speak with a nurse or GP about prostate checks. If you are Black or have a father or brother with prostate cancer, start the conversation at 45. Silence helps no one.
Cut Back on Smoking and Alcohol
Smoking increases the risk of aggressive cancer. Excess alcohol disrupts hormones and harms the liver. Reducing either is one of the most powerful steps you can take for long-term health.
Final Thought
Prostate cancer prevention is about respect for yourself and those who care about you. You deserve a future where you stay strong, independent and confident in your health. Take action now. Eat better when you can. Move your body. Notice changes. Ask for checks. You are never powerless.
If you need more information on prostate health, science reviews & clinical education resources are available free from Prostate Aid CIC’s website, a non-profit Community Interest Company focused on helping men take control of their wellbeing. Why Black Men Must Be Especially Aware
Prostate cancer does not affect everyone equally. Research shows:
• Black men are twice as likely to develop prostate cancer as white men.
• Black men are more likely to develop it younger, often before age 60.
• Black men are more likely to develop aggressive forms of the disease.
Scientists believe this is due to a mix of genetics, hormone differences and access to early healthcare.
The message is simple. If you are a Black man:
• Pay close attention to urinary changes.
• Start conversations with GPs and healthcare staff earlier.
• Keep active and focus on healthy eating.
Early detection saves lives. There is no shame in asking for a check. Prostate cancer caught early is very often treatable.
