Today we had the great pleasure of celebrating Doreen’s 100th birthday! True to her wishes, it was a lovely low-key celebration surrounded by her family and fellow residents. We were also delighted to welcome the Mayor of Crewe and members of the local PCSO team, who came along to mark this special milestone.

The afternoon was made even more memorable with a beautiful performance by Lydia Kate, who sang some of Doreen’s favourite songs — including a classic by The Carpenters, Doreen’s all-time favourite.

Everyone joined in to raise a glass of Bucks Fizz to toast to a century of wonderful memories. 🥂

🎃 Halloween Fun! 👻
This week we’ve been getting into the spooky spirit with pumpkin flower arranging, dress-up days, and a trick-or-treat sweetie trolley! Everyone really got into the festivities, and it was wonderful to see so many smiles (and a few friendly scares!).

We were privileged to be joined by Oakley, Toni, an Activities Assistant's son, who joined in the fun and helped make our Halloween celebrations even more special. 🧡

“Greater Manchester Health & Care Champion Awards 2025” the regional event that celebrates excellence across the care sector, is back!
We are delighted to announce that not one, but two members of the Alexandra Mill staff team have been nominated for an award this year.

This prestigious awards ceremony will take place on November 8th at The Kempton Clocktower, Manchester.

The finalists are Head of Housekeeping, Kelly Crayton, and Activities Coordinator, Kate Rigby who will be attending the black-tie event. We would like to wish them both the very best of luck on the night.

Thank you for all that you do for residents at Alexandra Mill, Good Luck Kelly and Kate!

We are looking forward to seeing the photos and results on the night. To us, Kelly and Kate are already winners! 🏆✨

We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon trip to Bridgemere Garden Centre. Our visit was thoughtfully planned to experience the diverse areas of the garden centre, with just enough time left for a touch of retail therapy.

Resident Robert was particularly delighted by the aquarium and its beautiful fish. Resident Doreen & Activities Assistant Tony were loving the colourful flowers and thoroughly enjoyed choosing plants to buy.

🎉 Irene Schofield Celebrates Her 105th Birthday in Style at Alexandra Mill Care Home 🎂

On 30th September 2025, Irene Schofield marked her incredible 105th birthday surrounded by love, laughter, and a few royal surprises at Alexandra Mill, part of the Anavo Group. The Mayor of Crewe, Sally Graham, joined Irene for the celebrations, sharing a special moment as they opened birthday cards together including one from Their Majesties The King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Irene’s birthday wishes were delightfully unique and joyfully fulfilled:

👩‍🚒 A visit from the Cheshire Fire & Rescue crew
🧀🥂 Afternoon cheese and Prosecco paired with tea cakes
🎸 A live acoustic performance by her favourite guitarist, Paul Walker
🍽️ A dinner of lamb chops with mash, plenty of gravy served piping hot, and lemon drizzle cake.

Irene also hosted a charming afternoon tea party for family and friends, donning a sparkling tiara and radiating happiness. Irene shared, “I am happy and love my tiara, I am very blessed.”

When asked about the secret to her long life, Irene offered sage advice: “Keep breathing, eat plain food with vegetables and stay healthy.”

Stephanie Sheer, Alexandra Mill Home Manager said “Irene has thoroughly loved the afternoon of celebrations, we feel honoured to have taken part in Irene’s very special day”

Greg’s wish to visit Bertie at Somerford Park must have meant the world to him—there’s something so special about reconnecting with beloved animals, especially when they’re part of the family. Bertie must’ve been thrilled to see a familiar face too! And topping it off with a pint at The Bears Head in Brereton Heath? Classic countryside charm.

Father-Daughter Duo have been serving Up Fitness and Fun at Alexandra Mill!

Reg has discovered a new passion—and a new lease on life—through table tennis sessions with his daughter Shirley at Alexandra Mill. Despite being a complete novice, Reg now volleys with remarkable consistency, reaching into the 30s and 40s during rallies with Shirley.

This newfound hobby isn’t just about the game. It’s become a powerful tool for staying fit, sharpening hand-eye coordination, and building stamina. Reg says he feels noticeably healthier and more energised after each match. “

Whether it’s the thrill of the rally or the joy of spending quality time together, Reg and Shirley are proving that it’s never too late to pick up a paddle—and that wellness can be found in the most unexpected places.

Our in-house private cinema brings joy to our residents with regular matinee and evening screenings. We offer a wide selection of films and easy access, making movie nights a favourite pastime for everyone.
We welcome friends and families to join us making the experience a shared one.

At Alexandra Mill we love getting together for creative sessions with . Spending time with friends and our favourite people painting pottery is a great way to spend the afternoon. Residents leave the experience with their unique keepsakes having had plenty of laughs along the way!

Happy 2nd Year Anniversary to us! 🎉

Congratulations to everyone at Alexandra Mill care home on reaching this wonderful milestone today! It has been 2 years since opening our doors when we welcomed the very first resident into the care home. Staff at the home, your dedication, compassion, and hard work have made a real difference to the lives of so many.

Thank you to residents and everyone who joined Home Manager-Stephanie Sheer this afternoon celebrating with bubbles and cake in the Anavo Club Room.

We know that Cheese n Wine afternoons are great crowd pleasers anywhere in the World and it is no different at Alexandra Mill.

Residents have told us that they just love the variety of cheeses sourced by Kate for the tasting experiences along with the great company and lively conversation.
