Stitches of Love and Memory

This week we said goodbye to a remarkable lady whose knitting needles were never still and whose heart was always open. This beautiful arrangement was shared in her memory, a life woven with care, knit one, purl one, love in every stitch.

Another example of the language of flowers and the amazing creativity of all the florists we are proud to work alongside.

FRANK EDWARD BARBER

Who passed away peacefully on Monday 27th April 2026. Aged 89 years.

Frank was the beloved husband of the late Brenda, a proud dad to Gary, a much-loved father-in-law to Clare, brother to Tony and the late Alan, a doting grandad to Josh, Matty, Zach and Millie-Anne and great-grandad to Jaxon. Frank was also a dearly loved uncle and a dear friend, known by so many for his long and storied career at Crewe Works.

Service and cremation to take place Monday, 18th May 2026, at 11.30am at Crewe Crematorium Chapel.

Family flowers only, but donations can be made in Frank's memory to Dementia UK and End of Life Care Appeal SWAN Volunteers Leighton Hospital.

Introducing Our New Memorial Care Packs

Visiting and caring for a loved one’s memorial is an important part of remembrance, so our Memorials Team at Oxley’s has put together something to offer a little support. Every new memorial purchase will have a Care Pack as part of their purchase but in response to feedback we are also widening that offer.

From 1st May, our new Memorial Care Packs will be available to purchase from our Crewe and Nantwich offices for £20. Each beautifully designed pack includes a plastic lined hessian bag, kneeler, sponge, scissors, water bottle and gloves, keeping everything together for your visit.

We are also donating half of all monies raised to twelve local charities throughout the year.

For May, we are proud to be supporting The Nantwich Christie Support Group.

🎸 What music would you have at your funeral? 🎸

When we recently shared Boo’s playlist, it sparked some lovely conversations about how music can hold our stories just as deeply as spoken words. For some people, the right song can say everything that matters on the day their loved ones gather to remember them.

Aaron, one of our Funeral Directors and resident heavy‑metal fan, feels exactly the same. He’s shared the tracks he’d want played, choices that are loud, full of personality and packed with meaning. In his words, there won’t be much time left for speeches… the music will do the talking.

Here are his four picks for what he calls his “funeral mini‑concert”:

🎶 “War Pigs” – Black Sabbath
The air‑raid siren intro is, he insists, the perfect opener to any event... especially his own. A dramatic start from a band he loves.

🎶 “Orion” – Metallica
A beautiful instrumental that means a great deal to him. At eight and a half minutes, it gives everyone plenty of time to recall the many, many, many fond memories he’s gifted over the years!

🎶 “Overkill” – Motörhead
Fast, furious and loud, exactly his kind of music and exactly the energy he’d want in the room.

🎶 “Whiskey in the Jar” – Metallica
He can’t stand the drink, but this cover holds a special place in his heart. It’s a song he’s listened to countless times with his Dad, including live in 2023, and a fun way to wrap things up.

OBITUARY 🙏💛

JOHN HOUGH

John passed away peacefully on 26th March 2026, aged 85 years.

John was the loving husband of the late Eileen Hough, dad to Justine, grandad to Nathan, great grandad to Jenson, brother to Jean & the late Fred & George and a great friend to many.

The funeral and celebration of John's life will be held on Friday 24th April 2026 at 12noon at St Michael's Church, Middlewich followed by a burial at Middlewich Cemetery. The Family would like people to wear Manchester City shirts or something sky blue.
