What a great word to start the week and one that I have been lacking in the last couple of weeks !
We already know that exercise and eating well provide a plethora of health benefits (lower blood pressure, improve sleep, reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, boost brain function and help maintain immune system function to name a few)
BUT sometimes just getting up and going is a little easier said than done. Here are just a few science-backed ways to help you get your workout mojo back....
1. TREAT YOURSELF TO A NEW PEICE OR WORKOUT GEAR
Tap into the novelty of buying yourself a gorgeous new pair of leggings and you will want to get your bum in them to show them off!!! A psychological phenomenon called 'enclothed cognition' describes the influence that certain clothing has on our mindset. Wear something that makes you feel confident and reclaim your workout as a positive experience.
2. KEEP THINGS INTERESTING
Running machine at home boring the **rse out of you?
That weekly Hiit class just not doing it for you any more?
Switch things up and try something new. Boredom kills motivation. If you like a class, go and try Zumba or that class that really intrigues you or scares you a little bit. Trust me....... you wont regret it.
3. BE PREPARED
Nope not a line from Disneys Lion King (well it is, but....)
Prep your week. Plan your workouts into your diary and get them done. Meal prep your lunches or all three meals if you can. If you aren't caught on the hop, hungry and browsing the shelves for inspo you are way more likely to stick to your new routine.
4. PUSH YOURSELF
If you sometimes find yourself coasting your workouts and 'going through the motions' now is the time to step up and shape up.
Try adding a few more minutes on the treadmill or how about marching those breaks and making them active ones. Or going just a little harder than usual in class. Each 'extra' will nudge you closer to your goals!!
5. FOCUS ON YOUR HEALTH & HAPPINESS
Lets make a fresh start and focus on feeling fit and healthy, how bloomin fantastic you feel after a good workout and how much better you feel now you have cleaned up your diet.
You will very quickly start to feel stronger and your shape will naturally change. This takes the focus away from 'losing weight' and emotionally you are making these changes because you want to.
