Pain between the shoulder blades‼️
Pain between the shoulder blades is a very common problem, familiar to every physical therapist. It affects both physically active and sedentary individuals. Pain between the shoulder blades can have many causes, but most often it results from muscle strain or weakness. Fortunately, most cases are relatively straightforward to diagnose and treat.
Pain between the shoulder blades – causes‼️
Pain between the shoulder blades most often results from muscle problems, such as overuse between the shoulder blades can also result from problems directly related to the spine. Environmental factors that increase the risk of back pain include:
✔️smoking,
✔️diabetes,
✔️infections,
✔️chronic stress,
✔️depression,
✔️overweight,
✔️poor physical condition.
Important mechanical risk factors include‼️:
✔️lifting heavy weights or carrying them frequently,
✔️exposing the body to vibrations (driving a car),
✔️frequent bending or twisting of the torso,
✔️prolonged adoption of uncomfortable positions.
A particularly important factor in the development of back pain is poor sitting posture.
Shoulder blades problems include degenerative spine disease, dowager's hump, ankylosing spondylitis, or mechanical damage to the muscles located there.
Pain between shoulder blades – how to treat‼️
Pain between the shoulder blades of muscular origin is treated with physiotherapy, which includes manual therapy, massage, the development of painful trigger points, and individually tailored exercises. Dry needling or kinesiotaping can also be used as a supplement to the therapy. The patient must change harmful habits, such as those related to posture or work position. However, the key is daily home exercises and increasing body awareness. Muscle rolling and the use of an acupressure mat are complementary home therapies . If the pain is caused by blocked costovertebral joints, spinal mobilization and manipulation are most effective. To protect against future pain, it is crucial to develop a strong muscular corset that will stabilize posture during all activities, including passive ones.
