Many women notice new or worsening shoulder pain, stiffness or reduced movement during perimenopause, with hormonal changes affecting connective tissue and inflammation levels.

Bowen Therapy can be a really useful and gentle treatment approach to regaining movement in this area, alongside any other hormonal support advised by your healthcare professional.

If you’re dealing with shoulder pain that’s limiting your day-to-day life, you don’t have to just “put up with it”, you can start taking steps to regain it.

If you are looking for ways to maintain a calm and regulated nervous system between your Bowen sessions then an article in the Guardian this weekend cited some recent research confirming what perhaps many of us already suspected. Creative activities like drawing, music, dancing, gardening, baking or crafting can have a real impact on our wellbeing, helping to reduce stress, calm the nervous system, improve mood and even support physical health.

Becoming absorbed in something creative shifts us out of “busy, stressed mode” and into a more relaxed state, the same state where healing and repair can happen more easily.

And you skill level doesn’t matter for it to count, it’s about enjoyment, presence and giving your nervous system a chance to reset.

If you are one of the many people who suffer from lower back pain then Bowen might be the answer you have been looking for. It is one of the most common reasons people seek help, and it can show up for many different reasons, including:
- Prolonged sitting or poor posture
- Stress and tension held in the body
- Overuse, repetitive movements, or heavy lifting
- Old injuries that never fully resolved
- Muscle imbalance

And it’s usually not just one thing but several in combination, with the body trying to compensate over time.

People often find Bowen helpful in this instance for:
✔ Reducing muscle tension and pain
✔ Improving mobility and alignment
✔ Supporting relaxation and stress relief
✔ Addressing underlying patterns contributing to pain
If your lower back is causing pain, Bowen offers a calm, whole-body approach that looks beyond just this area.

If you’d like to know more then do get in touch, or you can book a session at either the Crieff or Oban clinics.

For many this has been the first proper week of normality in a while, with the schools back and people returning to work again. It’s worth pausing to see what you could do differently in your working day this year – could you sit for less time, could you use your lunch break to move more, could you adjust your desk to make it more comfortable to spend time at. Small changes - from spending 20 minutes having a stroll at lunchtime to assessing whether you laptop or computer screen are at the right height – can have a huge impact on your health and wellbeing after a few weeks.

2025 certainly came up with its fair share of trends and fads in the health and wellness space – sleepmaxxing, fibremaxxing, high protein everything, zero-protein diets… As ever what endures are the daily and weekly habits we can all make and keep, that improve the way we feel and move, and ultimately lead to a happier and healthier life. Eating plenty of wholefoods, getting enough rest, moving our bodies and connecting with friends and family – New Year’s resolutions based around any of these are achievable and sustainable. And make sure to make some time for yourself in 2026.

Now is the time to get outside again after a few days of wintering, partying, or both!

Even a short walk or some fresh air can help your nervous system reset, release tension, and restore balance. Bowen Therapy works in a similar way, gently inviting your body to respond, letting it find ease and flow without forcing change.

Pair small outdoor moments with mindful body care, and you might be surprised how lighter, calmer, and more grounded you feel, just in time for the New Year celebrations.

The week before Christmas can feel full and a little hectic. But this is a time when rest is essential if we want to enjoy the festivities.

Small pauses count:
• a few slower breaths
• an early night when you can
• stepping away from the noise for a moment

And please remember that you don’t need to wait until everything is finished - a regulated body copes better, sleeps deeper, and recovers faster.

Final reminder that you can still purchase Gift Vouchers to use in either my Crieff or Oban clinics.

As we approach the end of the year, how many of your health-related resolutions did you stick to this year?

This isn’t about being self-critical, but about recognising how hard it can be to create and stick to new habits.

Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good, any positive actions you have take to look after your health this year will have reaped huge benefits and now is the time to set some new, but realistic, intentions for 2026:

- If you know you won’t have time to fit a daily walk in, aim for 3-4 times a week instead.
- If cooking a wholefood plant-based meal every night is overwhelming, start with twice a week.
- Your monthly Bowen appointments might have fallen by the way side but aim to book 6 appointments for next year in now.

Reminder that you can still purchase Gift Vouchers to use in either my Crieff or Oban clinics.

Are you struggling to stay healthy during the festive season?

These few weeks might be full of joy, buy they can also see our routines slip and stress build, and it isn’t long before we start to feel the effects. So here are some tips to stay feeling well:

1. Keep your nervous system calm
Any event can be overstimulating. Take a few minutes each day to breathe deeply, get outside in the fresh air, or do some gentle stretching – any of these will keep your body out of “stress mode.”
2. Stay hydrated
We’re all eating and drinking more than normal. Water helps digestion, supports joints and muscles, and keeps energy steady.
3. Nourish yourself
Think balance rather than restriction. Keep protein and fibre up with colourful veggies, good protein, and whole foods.
4. Keep moving
Whatever your preferred form of movement, it all helps to release tension and support circulation.
5. Protect your rest
Prioritise good sleep where you can - your body repairs itself most effectively when you’re well-rested.
6. Support your body with Bowen
Bowen Therapy can help release tension, restore balance, and support your nervous system, perfect for this busy time of year.

It doesn’t need to be perfect, but small daily choices will add up to help you stay feeling your best.
