The Easter break can be fabulous, but it can also be a lot.

More time with family, the kids off school, chocolate everywhere, and that feeling that we’re finally coming out of winter. It’s lovely, but it can also mean more noise, more people, less routine, and even less time to yourself.

If you’re feeling that right now, here’s a reminder that you don’t have to do it all perfectly, and it’s also OK to:
- take some time to yourself
- make time to go for a walk
- pause, breathe, and reset (even briefly)

This time of year is actually a perfect opportunity to start again, not with extremes or quick fixes, but with small habits that feel doable.

A bit more fresh air.
A bit more movement.
A bit more space for yourself.

Small shifts that you can carry with you into summer - feeling better doesn’t come from changing everything at once, but from doing more of the right things, consistently, even when life is busy.

Every week there seems to be a new wellness trend:

• Eat “boy kibble”
• Tape your mouth shut to sleep
• Drink magnesium cocktails
• Sit in an oxygen chamber

…it’s exhausting just reading about some of them.

But your body isn’t a trend, and it doesn’t need ‘hacking’ or forcing into submission.

Most of the time, it just needs:
• space
• safety
• the chance to reset

Which is one of the reasons I fell in love withBowen. It’s gentle, it works with your body (not against it), and it helps everything slow down enough to actually heal. No gimmicks, or extremes.

Are you tired all day, but the moment you try to relax, your body just won’t switch off, you struggle to sleep and your mind keeps racing?

It can be intensely frustrating, but it is very common.

Often, this isn’t just “being busy” or needing more sleep. It can be a sign your nervous system is stuck in “on mode”, or what is sometimes called fight-or-flight.

When your body stays there too long, it can feel like:

• constant tiredness but no real rest
• tension in your shoulders, jaw, or back
• shallow breathing
• restless or broken sleep

Even when you want to relax, your body doesn’t feel safe enough to fully let go.

And this is where gentle bodywork, like Bowen, can help.

By using small, precise movements with pauses in between, Bowen gives your body space to slow down and shift into “rest and digest” mode instead, the place where real healing and recovery happens.

So if you resonate with that feeling of being unable to switch off, then do get in touch, I have clinic spaces available in both Oban and Crieff over the coming weeks.

As Bowen practitioners we talk about fascia a lot, using fascial release techniques when treating patients. But what exactly if fascia and why is it so important?

Fascia lies underneath the skin, and wraps around and connects everything in the body, from muscles and nerves to blood vessels and organs. It could be described as the body’s internal wetsuit. If you’ve carved a joint of meat, it’s the thin, silvery layer wrapped around the muscle, rather like clingfilm.

It’s made of collagen, is 70% water, and contains nerve endings that allow it to sense movement, pressure and temperature. It can also influence posture, movement and proprioception (your body's subconscious ability to perceive its own position, movement, and spatial orientation without using vision).

Perhaps most importantly it is in constant communication with your brain, relaying messages about how your body feels.

Which means…when fascia becomes tight, dehydrated, or stuck in particular patterns (caused by sitting at a desk, stress, or repetitive movements for instance), it can affect:

• how you move
• how you feel
• even where you experience pain

And often, the discomfort you feel in one place isn’t actually coming from that exact spot.

This is where Bowen is so useful - rather than forcing or manipulating the body, we work gently with this fascial system, helping it reset and communicate better with the nervous system.

So if your body has been feeling tight, out of balance, or just “not quite right” lately, it might not need more effort, it might need the right kind of support.

I see lots of people in my clinics who are experiencing recurrent headaches.

Tight shoulders, a stiff neck, jaw tension or poor sleep can all contribute to headaches that keep returning.
It’s important to rule out a more serious underlying cause, but when these avenues have been exhausted and the headaches persist, Bowen can be an effective treatment, encouraging the body to release tension and rebalance.

Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to find out more.

It was reported this week that millions of working days in the UK are being lost to mental health challenges such as stress, anxiety and burnout – a timely reminder of how closely our mental and physical wellbeing are connected.

When life feels overwhelming, the body often carries that stress too, in muscle tension, headaches, fatigue, poor sleep or persistent aches and pains.

One of the most powerful things we can do is give the body time and space to reset.

Bowen therapy is a gentle, hands-on treatment designed to encourage the body to relax and rebalance. Many people find it helps release tension, calm the nervous system and support overall wellbeing.

Please note that if, during the course of a consultation or appointment, I feel you need help from another health care provider, I will flag that, and can recommend other professionals who might be able to assist further.

I often get asked what ages I treat in my clinics, and the simple answer is ‘any and all’!

I offer a free short 15 minute consultation for babies and toddlers under 24 months, and am often able to pinpoint and treat a wide range of issues in this short time. For children from 2-12 years old I offer a 30-40 min appointment for £25, for 13-15 year olds a 45 minute appointment for £30, and for 16 years and upwards (and the sky really is the limit with age!), you can book a 1hr appointment for £50.

I also offer plans which make it possible to buy a block of sessions at a reduced price. Do get in touch for more information on any of these appointments, or to find out more about the Bronze and Silver Plans available.

There’s a noticeable shift in health conversations at the moment, marking a move away from quick fixes and towards whole-person health.

For years it’s felt as though we’ve been encouraged to look for the fast solution: the pill, the injection, the intense programme that promises rapid results. But more and more people are realising that our health isn’t just one thing to “fix”.

Our wellbeing is influenced by so many interconnected factors, how we move, how we rest, how we manage stress, how our bodies adapt to life’s changes, and how supported we feel.

When we look at health in this more holistic way, the goals change too. It’s not just about removing a symptom as quickly as possible, but about helping the body rebalance, recover and function well over time.

This is where gentle, whole-body approaches like Bowen can play such an important role, supporting the body’s natural ability to reset and repair, and treating one thing in isolation.

You might think Bowen is just for back or neck pain – but here are 5 other issues many clients present with that can be treated effectively in the clinic:

- Jaw tension and teeth grinding
- Digestive discomfort or bloating
- Poor sleep quality
- Feeling tense and overwhelmed
- Hormone-related discomfort

In fact, many people come for one specific issue, and then notice other positive changes as their body begins to rebalance.

If you’ve been dealing with ongoing tension, stress, or discomfort, even if it doesn’t seem obviously muscular, Bowen may be able to help.

You’re very welcome to message me if you’d like to find out more or book a session.

Spring has arrived – at least according to the calendar. This time of year many of us find we have more energy and become more active again after the winter. However it’s common to find that we have been holding onto niggles, stiffness, or tension over the winter, and the body needs time and help to adapt fully.
This is where Bowen therapy can be particularly supportive.

Bowen is a gentle, hands-on therapy that works with the nervous system to help the body release tension, improve mobility, and restore balance. Many clients report improvements in pain, sleep, and overall ease within just a few sessions.

Spring is a natural time to reset and support your body, so if you’ve been thinking about trying Bowen, or are curious whether it could help you, you’re very welcome to get in touch to learn more or book a session.

Menopause can bring many changes, some expected, and some that take women by surprise. I often see women experiencing things like joint stiffness, muscle tension, poor sleep, fatigue, anxiety, or simply not feeling quite right in their body anymore.

These symptoms aren’t just in your head, hormonal changes can affect the nervous system, muscles, joints, and your overall sense of wellbeing.

Bowen therapy is a very gentle, calming treatment that works with your nervous system to help the body shift out of stress mode and into rest and repair. Many women find it helps them feel more relaxed, sleep more deeply, and move more freely (stiff shoulders anyone?).

It’s also simply a chance to slow down, something many of us rarely give ourselves permission to do.

If you’re navigating menopause or perimenopause and would like to know more, you’re very welcome to message me.
