The week before Christmas can feel full and a little hectic. But this is a time when rest is essential if we want to enjoy the festivities.

Small pauses count:
• a few slower breaths
• an early night when you can
• stepping away from the noise for a moment

And please remember that you don’t need to wait until everything is finished - a regulated body copes better, sleeps deeper, and recovers faster.

Final reminder that you can still purchase Gift Vouchers to use in either my Crieff or Oban clinics.

As we approach the end of the year, how many of your health-related resolutions did you stick to this year?

This isn’t about being self-critical, but about recognising how hard it can be to create and stick to new habits.

Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good, any positive actions you have take to look after your health this year will have reaped huge benefits and now is the time to set some new, but realistic, intentions for 2026:

- If you know you won’t have time to fit a daily walk in, aim for 3-4 times a week instead.
- If cooking a wholefood plant-based meal every night is overwhelming, start with twice a week.
- Your monthly Bowen appointments might have fallen by the way side but aim to book 6 appointments for next year in now.

Reminder that you can still purchase Gift Vouchers to use in either my Crieff or Oban clinics.

Are you struggling to stay healthy during the festive season?

These few weeks might be full of joy, buy they can also see our routines slip and stress build, and it isn’t long before we start to feel the effects. So here are some tips to stay feeling well:

1. Keep your nervous system calm
Any event can be overstimulating. Take a few minutes each day to breathe deeply, get outside in the fresh air, or do some gentle stretching – any of these will keep your body out of “stress mode.”
2. Stay hydrated
We’re all eating and drinking more than normal. Water helps digestion, supports joints and muscles, and keeps energy steady.
3. Nourish yourself
Think balance rather than restriction. Keep protein and fibre up with colourful veggies, good protein, and whole foods.
4. Keep moving
Whatever your preferred form of movement, it all helps to release tension and support circulation.
5. Protect your rest
Prioritise good sleep where you can - your body repairs itself most effectively when you’re well-rested.
6. Support your body with Bowen
Bowen Therapy can help release tension, restore balance, and support your nervous system, perfect for this busy time of year.

It doesn’t need to be perfect, but small daily choices will add up to help you stay feeling your best.

An often forgotten body part: your diaphragm.

We often think of tight shoulders or sore backs, but did you know your diaphragm can also hold tension?

When the diaphragm becomes restricted you might notice:
• Feeling “tight” in the chest
• Shallow breathing
• Anxiety spikes
• Digestive discomfort
• Neck/shoulder tension

These can be caused by everything from stress to cold weather, inefficient breathing to bad posture.

During an appointment I am able to help release the diaphragm, encouraging easier breathing, deeper relaxation, and better whole-body balance. Get in touch if you are experiencing symptoms you think could relate to a tight diaphragm.

More UAE patients are turning to homeopathy for mental health support as it offers a holistic, low-risk alternative to conventional treatment. Experts like Dr Yasir Shafi and Dr Harkirat Singh Wilkhoo highlight that homeopathy addresses both mind and body, focusing on emotional triggers and overall well-being rather than just symptoms.

Used alongside conventional care, it has shown benefits for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and even behavioural issues in children. With minimal side effects and no dependency, homeopathy promotes emotional balance, better sleep, and improved quality of life through natural, integrative healing.

As winter moves in, many people feel a dip in energy, mood or motivation. It’s more common than we realise: lower daylight, colder weather, busier schedules all add up.

Bowen can support your nervous system and help reduce physical stiffness or tension that sometimes comes with seasonal stress. If you’ve been feeling more tense, tired, or out of sorts lately it might be time to invest in some self-care, and a Bowen session can be part of that process.

In addition spending just 20–30 minutes outside - walking, breathing, moving - can boost circulation, mood and overall wellbeing.

Do you spend most of your day sitting, perhaps working at a desk, or driving? Long periods of sitting can take a real toll on your body, even if you exercise regularly, and can lead to:

• Tight hips and hamstrings
• Lower back or neck tension
• Reduced circulation
• Headaches
• Fatigue and poor posture
• General stiffness that gets worse over time

But – there are small and simple habits you can introduce into your daily life that will make a real difference.
1. Move every 30–45 minutes
Standing, stretching, or walking around for as little as 1–2 minutes can help reset your posture and reduce stiffness.
2. Open up the hips
Gentle hip flexor stretches or figure-four stretches counter the shortening that happens when we sit.
3. Check your desk set-up
Make sure your screen is at eye level, your shoulders are relaxed, and your lower back is supported.
4. Do “micro-movements” throughout the day
Shoulder rolls, neck mobility, ankle circles, they all help keep your body awake and your circulation flowing.
5. Hydrate
Your muscles and fascia work better when you’re hydrated. Water also encourages you to get up more often…

And remember that if you are feeling the effects of sitting for too long in your job, Bowen can help your body reset and release tension.

Did you know nearly 18% of UK adults live with a long-term musculoskeletal (MSK) condition?

MSK issues can make simple tasks feel harder, and affect sleep, energy, mood, and overall wellbeing.

Bowen therapy offers a gentle, non-invasive way to support your body’s own healing. Through light, rolling movements over muscles and fascia, Bowen helps the nervous system reset, encourages the body to relax, and can ease tension that contributes to pain and imbalance.

People often come to Bowen for:
✔️ Back, neck & shoulder discomfort
✔️ Joint pain (knees, hips, ankles)
✔️ TMJ (or jaw) issues
✔️ Sports or posture-related strain
✔️ General tension and stress

If you’ve been living with persistent aches or discomfort - or simply feel “out of balance” - Bowen could be a natural way to help your body find ease again.

If you’re curious whether Bowen could support you then do send me a message, I’m always happy to chat and answer questions.

Why stress shows up in the body — and how Bowen can help

Up to 80% of GP visits are linked to stress-related issues such as tension, headaches, poor sleep, and digestive discomfort (as reported by the British Medical Association.)

And stress doesn’t just affect the mind, it settles into the muscles, fascia and nervous system, often before we even notice it.

Which is where Bowen Therapy can make a real difference.

With its gentle rolling movements, Bowen helps:
• Release tightness in the body
• Calm the parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) nervous system
• Improve sleep and overall wellbeing
• Reduce stress-related symptoms like jaw tension, shoulder tightness and headaches

Many clients say they feel lighter, calmer and more balanced after just one session, rather like their whole system has finally exhaled.

If you are carrying tension you are finding it hard to shift, then do get in touch, or book a session on-line. I have appointments available in both Crieff and Oban.

The temperature is dropping and the amount of daylight is limited – and you may be one of the many people finding it hard to adjust to the winter. Here are some tried and tested ways to beat the winter blues:

1. Embrace what you can do
It’s easy to focus on the limits imposed by the light and weather, but Scandinavians are experts when it comes to focusing on the new opportunities the winter brings – from indoor hobbies like knitting or cooking, to snowsports and winter walks.

2. ‘Active dormancy’
We need more rest during the winter, and it’s OK to lean into that. It’s time to mix a slower, more restful lifestyle with activities that will keep us engaged mentally.

3. Stay connected
There is lots of current research to show that the key to health, happiness and longevity is social interaction. So while it can be tempting to hibernate, staying in touch and meeting up with others is a key part of staying happy through the winter months.

And if you’re still struggling with the winter blues than consider a Bowen session to help restore and rebalance your nervous system.
