Life lately.
Some of you know that I’m stepping back a little from my work. Keeping what I can and pausing what is necessary. Prioritising the people that need me the most right now.
It’s a tough juggle sometimes as a self employed Mum. Home educating wasn’t the plan but here we are, and when health needs throw another curve ball into the mix, the only path is to deal with what is directly in front of me with love and kindness in the best way I can.
I say none of this for sympathy. Simply sharing the challenges of my family life, as much as I am able, in the hope that maybe it might make someone else feel less alone.
The things that keep me steady are possibly not what you might think. It isn’t movement on my mat or sound, it isn’t breathwork, or any of the other beautiful practices I adore. I can’t go to the gym, go for a run, or dip in the sea, taking time for yourself when someone you care about is in crisis is not possible in the conventional sense.
Yet there is an opportunity to find small moments. It is literally just the practice of paying attention.
This looks like going outside, hearing bird song, sunrise, sunset and feeling the sun on my face. Tasting things properly (cacao is joy and steadiness in a cup), having a hot shower, staying off my phone (a work in progress), these all help. Most importantly? Moments of connection, that’s it.
And actually, this noticing, the practice of paying attention, this is the yoga for me.
