What Is Fire Walking?

Fire walking: The act of walking barefoot across a bed of hot embers or stone.

The type of fire walking we provide uses a wood-based fire, burnt down to hot-coals. The average temperature is in excess of 1000 degrees Fahrenheit; enough to melt aluminium.

How is this possible?

There are many theories as to how people are capable of walking on fire without getting burnt and I won’t bore you with all the scientific theories but if you are inclined to read up; the Liedenfrost effect is worth a Google, includes a video of a man putting his hand into molten lead. Other ideas suggest the ash acts as an insulator or that your feet are not in contact with the coals long enough for your feet to burn. Beyond the scientific and into the realms of the spirit and it is believed that you can control your body through your mindset and is considered a wonderful example of the mind-body connection at work and a means of demonstrating that we do have control over this process. Yet whichever theory you choose to believe; the fact still remains that skin and flesh chars at contact with 300 degrees Fahrenheit and we regularly walk on coals four times that temperature with no ill effect.

So, will I get burned?

Walking on red hot coals is obviously inherently dangerous. That being said, If you follow the instructions given, the experience of walking should feel no more than a tingling sensation; like the palms of your hands feel after you have clapped your hands together a while or walking barefoot down the road or promenade on a hot sunny summer’s day. The real question is, after you realise you can walk on fire, what else can you do that you didn’t believe you could?

Firewalk Fundraisers: Cross the 1200 degrees Fahrenheit bed of hot coals to promote awareness for your good cause or registered charity, a participant and supporters’ favourite for raising money utilising the medium of a Firewalk; personal empowerment at its most extreme. Our charity fire walks are usually around 12’ long. Be amazed at your own source of strength, resilience and good humour; included is a pre-event seminar as part of the empowerment process.

Please remember participation in any activity is completely voluntary and that whist Firewalking is a dangerous pursuit the benefits can be awe inspiring.
