📱📞☎️ Patient Message☎️📞📱

Unfortunately, our phones are down at the moment - it is an external issue but it is being worked on.

This could be an ideal opportunity to use our new online system which patients report is much easier to use - why not give it a try if you can?

Just go to our website at https://www.collegesurgery.org.uk and follow the instructions.

📝A message for our patients📝

We are always striving to make the services we provide to you more effective and efficient and tomorrow (Wednesday, 3rd December) at 09:00 we go live with a new and simpler online patient request system called Accurx (which will replace the eConsult system we currently have in place).

There will be minimal change for patients as you will go to the same section of our website and just follow the instructions as before and there will be a lot less scripted questions for you to answer. Once the request comes into the practice the system remains the same as it was previously.

This move is ahead of some further changes in January but we’ll let you know more about them in due course.

We have planned for this change and expect things to run smoothly but, as with any change, hiccups can happen so please bear with us if any of these occur as we will have a team working in the background to resolve these as soon as possible.

Many thanks

**Our Local NHS is Under Real Pressure – Please Help Us Help Each Other**

Our colleagues at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have declared OPEL 4, which means our local hospitals — including the Royal Devon and Exeter (Wonford), North Devon District Hospital, and our community hospitals — are currently under very severe pressure.

One of the main reasons for this is the rapid spread of seasonal respiratory illnesses, such as flu, COVID-19, and RSV. These viruses are causing a sharp rise in people needing hospital care, especially those who are older or have long-term health conditions.

As a result:

🔵 Emergency Departments are extremely busy, and people are facing longer waits to be seen or admitted.

🔵 Hospitals are running very short of beds, and staff are working tirelessly to care for everyone safely.

🔵 Some planned appointments and treatments may take longer than usual to be arranged.

How you can help:

🟢 Get vaccinated – this is the single most effective way to protect yourself and others from serious illness this winter.

🟢 Stay home if you have cold or flu symptoms, unless you need urgent medical care.

🟢 Use NHS 111 online or speak to your pharmacist for non-urgent advice before heading to A&E.

Every vaccine given and every sensible choice made helps relieve pressure on our local hospitals and keeps our community safer.

Thank you for your kindness, patience, and support — it really does make a difference.
Together, we can help protect each other and support our NHS this winter.

October is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Awareness Month. ADHD is a condition where someone’s brain works differently to most people’s.

The NHS website has more information about symptoms, getting help and how to manage ADHD.

Getting chilly out there? 🍂 Hot water bottles are the perfect cosy comfort - but staying safe is even better!

Before you fill yours up:
• Check the daisy wheel symbol - if it's over 2 years old, replace it
• Use hot tap water (40°C), never boiling water
• Fill only two-thirds full and check for cracks

Your evening ritual can stay cosy and safe. Small checks = big protection from burns.
