Our amendment passed! 🥳

The Tories and Reform proposed the 'Women's Privacy, Dignity and Safety' motion at Darlington Council yesterday, and we made sure to amend the motion, so that 'women's safety' could not be weaponized against the trans community.

We stand with women across Darlington facing violence - our party takes violence against women and girls incredibly seriously, which is why we won't let anyone spread a false narrative about what causes it.

Let's be clear: the main threat to women's safety is not the tiny transgender minority - it's cisgender men, and a political class that doesn't care enough to act in support of women.

The Greens know that solidarity and inclusion will always make everyone safer - and will continue to speak up for, and win for, women AND the LGBTQ+ community.

Making hope normal again, one amendment at a time...

My statement in response to the Supreme Court ruling today:

I know there are many trans and non-binary people who will be feeling deeply worried today, caught in the midst of a media storm as they try to simply live their lives. To those people, I say: please know that I stand with you - today, tomorrow and always.

continues to support a policy of self-ID to allow trans people to live full lives free from harassment in the gender they know themselves to be. The judge emphasised in his speech that trans people are still protected under the law, but it is for government to now demonstrate how this will be achieved.

I will work closely with human rights and LGBTIQA+ groups to understand the consequences of this ruling, and will not hesitate to press for changes in legislation if it is needed to protect the human rights of all.

We want the Government to reverse the restrictions it has introduced relating to the prescription of puberty blockers to children. The Government introduced legislation banning them from being prescribed by the private sector and NHS primary care to under 18s not already taking them.
