Today we pause, breathe, and remember.
We remember the people who served, stood, and sacrificed.
Those who walked into fear so others could walk in peace.
The named and the unnamed. The fallen and the forever changed.

We remember, too, the animals who stood beside them.
The horses who carried them, the dogs who guarded them,
the messenger birds who flew through danger, the many gentle souls
who never understood war but gave everything anyway.
May we hold their memory with tenderness.

May we honour not only the lives lost, but the love and courage they carried.
May we continue to build a world where peace is not a wish, but a way of being.

For those unsure or unaware, every year on 5 November, the UK skies light up with fireworks, sparklers and bonfires. But the story behind Bonfire Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Night, goes back over 400 years.

In 1605, a group of men, including Guy Fawkes, planned what became known as the Gunpowder Plot. Their aim was to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London and overthrow the government. They stored barrels of gunpowder beneath the building, ready to ignite during the State Opening of Parliament.
But the plot was discovered before it could happen. Guy Fawkes was caught guarding the gunpowder and was arrested. To celebrate the King’s safety, people lit bonfires across the country, and the tradition has continued ever since.

Today, Bonfire Night isn’t really about politics. It’s become a moment where communities come together to enjoy:
