Is Dad's mental health the conversation we're not having?????
I'm very aware when I write that I don't want to exclude the value that Dad's, Step-Dad's and Grandad's can bring in a child's life.
I'm also aware that a lot of men, carry their struggle alone. Men are so much less likely to share that they are having a tough time generally- let alone on the parenting front.
The expectation of what it means to be a Dad has changed over the generations and this can put an awful lot of pressure on men to try to be everything to everyone.
Maybe the once traditional role as the Dad being the financial provider doesn't fit in your home set up and you are still figuring out where that leaves you.
Or maybe you are the main financial provider and that feels like a lot of pressure to keep going, and keep everyone afloat.
Dad's have you taken your eye off the ball when it comes to your mental health or are you busy over there being
"strong" for your family.
Let's break the silence, I encourage you to talk to your mates, work colleagues or family if you are feeling overwhelmed, exhausted or flat and unmotivated.
If you feel that's something you might struggle to do with people you know, or you feel you would like a more professional level of support. Counselling sessions with me offer you the opportunity to share how you're feeling, say the things you dread saying to your loved ones and give you a space that is dedicated to you and your wellbeing.
As Men's Mental Health Month comes to a close, a reminder that my counselling door is open to you Dad's too.
