Today I should have been running the Lake Garda Marathon. 🇮🇹
But with ni**le after ni**le, pretty early on this year I had to make a decision that wasn’t going to happen.
And I won’t lie, it’s been a bit of a tough pill to swallow.😫
But this year I have defintiley learnt that,
ignoring the ni**les;
pushing through and hoping for the best,
is not a strategy! 🙈
And although my time away from hockey and running this year has been frustrating to say the least, it has reinforced something I tell clients all the time…
looking after your body isn’t just one thing,
it’s a few small things done consistently.
If you want to stay moving well, here’s what actually helps:
👂🏻 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆
Niggles are warnings, not inconveniences.
🤸🏼 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴
Complete rest isn’t always the answer, smart movement is.
💪🏼 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮
A stronger body is a more resilient body.
🧘🏼♀️ 𝗗𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀
Mobility, recovery, slowing things down when needed… it all matters.
💆🏼♀️ 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲
Maintenance over repair every time.
These are all the things I’ll be focusing on going forwards to make sure I’m fighting fit for next season!
So whilst this trip wasn’t the marathon I had planned, it was definitely the decision my body needed!
And let’s face it…
a weekend in the sunshine, enjoying good food and spending time with the people I love isn’t the worst alternative in the world!☀️
