Halloween is creeping up fast!
Did you know that many Halloween costumes don’t meet the same safety standards as everyday children’s clothing — and can be highly flammable?
Here are a few tips to help keep little monsters safe this spooky season:
✔ Keep kids away from any open flames. - Ensure the costume includes safety instructions and has a UKCA or CE mark, along with the manufacturer's name. The UKCA mark is the British equivalent of the CE mark post-Brexit, which is still valid.
✔ Always purchase costumes from reputable retailers. - Homemade costumes can also pose risks if made from materials not meant for wear, like bin bags.
✔ If clothing does catch fire, remind children to STOP, DROP, and ROLL to extinguish flames.
✔ Cool any burns with water and call 999 in an emergency.
Let’s make sure the only thing that’s scary this Halloween… is the costumes!
