✨ New Year, New Yoga Class ✨

is thrilled to be launching a brand-new yoga class this January 🧘‍♀️

If you’ve been wanting to try yoga but never quite knew where to begin, this class is perfect for you 💫

It’s welcoming, gentle, and suitable for complete beginners as well as those with a more established practice 🙏

We’ll move slowly, explore each pose with ease, and create space in the body so you can find what feels good for you ❤️

Pilates Spine Stretch 〰️

The Pilates Spine Stretch is a calming, feel-good exercise that helps lengthen your back, improve posture, and release tight shoulders and neck 😮‍💨

Sitting tall with your legs extended and arms reaching forward, you gently round your spine and stretch forward as if you’re curling over a big beach ball. You then slowly return to sitting tall, stacking your spine up one bone at a time 🧘‍♀️

This exercise leaves your spine feeling longer, lighter,more relaxed and your hamstrings nice and stretched 🤩

Modifications of your feeling a little tight…

💫 Bend your knees: Slightly bending the knees takes pressure off tight hamstrings

💫 Sit on a cushion or block: this helps you sit taller and makes the stretch more comfortable

💫 Hands on thighs instead of reaching forward: Great if your shoulders or neck feel tight

💫 Smaller stretch: Only go forward as far as feels good—no need to force it just go to where you feel that natural stretch

Pilates Roll Down ⭕️

The Pilates Roll Down is a smooth, gentle movement that helps stretch your back, strengthen your core, and improve your posture 💪

Sitting tall with your feet on the floor, you slowly curl your head, shoulders, and spine back with control, using your tummy muscles for support.

Then you smoothly roll back up to sitting, stacking your spine one bone at a time. It feels amazing for releasing tension and helping your body feel taller and stronger 😊

Modifications are always available in our pilates classes 🙏

💫 Bent knees: Keep your knees slightly bent to reduce strain on your lower back

💫 Hands behind thighs: Lightly hold behind your legs for extra support as you roll down and up

💫 Smaller range of motion: Only roll part of the way back if you feel tight or uncomfortable

💫 Use a cushion or mat: Sit on a cushion to make the movement more comfortable

Welcome to the 12 days of pilates Christmas edition 🎄

Over the next 12 days we will be sharing our favourite mat pilates exercises that you will see in our classes 🧘‍♀️

We start with the ‘shoulder bridge’…

The shoulder bridge is a great way to strengthen the core, glutes, and hamstrings while improving spinal mobility. In this exercise, we lift the hips to create a long diagonal line from the shoulders to the knees, using breath and control to move through the spine.

Here’s how to perform a shoulder bridge step by step:

💫 Set up: Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat hip-width apart (this is called a semi supine position). Arms rest by your sides, palms pressing gently into the mat.

💫 Activate the core: Take a breath in. As you exhale, gently imprint your lower back into the mat and start to peel your spine up, one vertebra at a time, moving slowly and with control.

💫 Find the bridge: Lift the hips until the body forms a long line from shoulders to knees. Press through the feet, engage glutes and hamstrings, and keep the ribs soft.

💫 Articulate down: Inhale to prepare. As you exhale, melt the spine back onto the mat, lowering one vertebra at a time until the tailbone returns to the floor.
