I saw an article recently about Eamonn Holmes speaking openly about relying on carers throughout the day because of ongoing mobility problems and chronic pain.

What struck me wasn’t actually the story itself - it was the language used in some of the headlines. One described it as him “sadly admitting” he relies on carers.

That wording really stuck with me.

Needing help isn’t something to “admit”.
And it certainly isn’t something to be ashamed of.

As someone who works in care every day, I know that carers don’t see helping people as something sad or embarrassing. Quite the opposite. Supporting people to live safely and with dignity is something we’re proud to do.

So I wrote a short blog about why no one should ever feel ashamed of needing care, and why we need to change how society talks about it.

If you’d like to read it, you can here 👇

Because the truth is simple:
Never be ashamed of needing carers.
Carers aren’t ashamed of helping you.

👉 Subcontracting in Care – What Families Should Know 👈

Choosing the right care for a loved one isn’t just about finding someone kind and reliable. It’s also about understanding who you are actually contracting with and how your care is delivered.

Did you know that some agencies might send someone else to provide your care without telling you? If those arrangements aren’t transparent, it can affect things like policies, accountability, insurance cover and overall safety.

In our latest blog we break down:
🧠 What subcontracting actually means in regulated care
📜 Why honesty and transparency matter from the very start
👩‍⚕️ When GPs and commissioners should be informed
⚠️ The hidden risks of informal arrangements
❓The key questions every family should be confident to ask
At WeKare, we ✨believe clarity is safety- and making sure you know who is delivering care gives peace of mind as well as protection.

Choosing a care provider for someone you love is a significant decision. Families quite rightly focus on kindness, reliability and compatibility.

Scrolling certain forums and LinkedIn lately and thinking…

Are we all apparently failing?
Are we all non-compliant?
Are we all one audit away from disaster?

The volume of noise in social care can be exhausting. All performative and stage managed with carefully orchestrated photos along the way.
There’s a difference between professional challenge and performative superiority. Between evidence-based guidance and anxiety marketing.

So I’ve written a blog about it. About confidence. About credible sources. About trusting regulation, lived experience, and proper governance - not algorithms.

Because at the end of the day, CQC inspect your practice. Not your LinkedIn presence.

If you’re a provider who’s ever read a post and thought “am I missing something?” - this one’s for you.

⚠ Safeguarding Is Not Optional ⚠

One thing I will never apologise for is raising a safeguarding concern when something doesn’t feel right.

In social care, our first duty is always to the person in front of us. Their safety. Their dignity. Their wellbeing. Not to systems. Not to contracts. Not to keeping other professionals comfortable.

Safeguarding can be uncomfortable. It can strain relationships between agencies. It can create difficult conversations. It can mean challenging people we work alongside. But that discomfort is nothing compared to the consequences of staying silent.

Sometimes concerns are clear and urgent. Other times they are quieter - patterns that don’t sit right, changes in presentation, repeated small incidents that build into something bigger. It is our professional responsibility to notice, to question, and to act.

Raising a safeguarding concern is not an accusation. It is not a personal attack. It is not about blame. It is about risk management and protecting vulnerable people when they may not be able to protect themselves.

Over the years I have learned that doing the right thing does not always make you popular. But popularity has never been the goal. Safety has.

At WeKare, we would always rather have a difficult conversation than regret silence. We would always rather escalate appropriately than hope a situation resolves itself.

- Because safeguarding is not about agencies.
- It is not about reputation.
- It is not about politics.

It is about people.
And people come first. Always.

✨ A Very Special Evening for Care ✨
Last week I had the absolute honour of attending a carers’ event at Windsor Castle.

Walking through those gates knowing you’re there because of the work we all do in people’s homes every single day felt incredibly humbling.

His Majesty Charles III had written a letter recognising the essential role carers play in society- and it really hit home. Care underpins everything. Families. Communities. Dignity. Independence.

We were fortunate enough to meet The King and Queen, and also Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, whose warmth and genuine interest in the care sector really stood out. When someone in her position truly understands the pressures carers face, that matters.

It was also lovely to speak with Kate Garraway, who continues to be such a strong voice for carers nationally.

And yes- the steak and champagne were excellent. But what stayed with me most was this:

💙 Care is skilled.
💙 Care is professional.
💙 Care is essential.

And the people who provide it- whether family members or paid professionals- deserve to feel seen.

At WeKare, we are incredibly proud of our team. The early mornings. The late finishes. The emotional resilience. The quiet advocacy. This evening was recognition for every one of you.

Behind Every Good Care Company… Is a Very Patient Accountant…

Today we are shining a light on someone who doesn’t wear a uniform, doesn’t carry out care calls- but without him, WeKare simply wouldn’t function.

Meet Andy Yeldham from Rose Accountancy- our long-suffering, endlessly patient accountant.

Andy can count loads of numbers (even up to ten with both hands). From payroll to tax returns, cash flow to “Stacey’s cavalier-at-best books”, he handles it all calmly, methodically and with far more patience than we probably deserve.

Running a care company is about people first, but the foundations still have to be solid. Andy makes sure we are compliant, organised and financially steady, so that we can focus on what really matters: delivering exceptional, person-centred care.

Behind every good care team is someone quietly making sure the sums add up. We’re very grateful that ours is Andy.

Thank you for keeping us in line – even when we test your spreadsheet limits 💙💙💙

Last night was a real honour attending a carers’ reception at Windsor Castle. Meeting Charles III and Camilla was a wonderful experience and a powerful reminder that carers and those who support vulnerable people are recognised at the very highest level.

A particular highlight was speaking with The Duchess of Edinburgh Sophie, who was genuinely engaged, knowledgeable and clearly passionate about her work supporting carers. Her warmth and understanding of the sector truly stood out. It was also a pleasure to meet Kate Garraway, who was gracious, down to earth and such a strong advocate for carers.

And yes- steak and champagne inside Windsor Castle was not something I ever expected to tick off the list!

Today I want to give a huge shout out to Gemma, and take a moment to recognise just how much she means to WeKare.

Gemma has been with us through so much of our journey, and her commitment, professionalism and genuine care for both our clients and our team never goes unnoticed. She consistently goes above and beyond, often quietly and without fuss, but always with the best interests of others at heart.

What really sets Gemma apart is her values. She shares the same belief that care should always be person-centred, compassionate and respectful, and she brings that ethos into everything she does. Whether it’s supporting clients, helping colleagues, or keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, she does it with warmth, patience and integrity.

We are incredibly lucky to have Gemma as part of the WeKare family. Her hard work, loyalty and kindness make a real difference every single day, and WeKare simply wouldn’t be the same without her.

Thank you, Gemma- we appreciate you more than you know 💙💙💙

To continue our staff recognition, we’d like to introduce our Jane. Jane is everyone’s mum- loving, caring, and an absolute tonic for both our clients and the wider team.

She has a wonderful way of brightening the day of everyone she supports, bringing comfort, reassurance, and kindness wherever she goes. And it’s not just our clients who benefit- even the foxes of Kent are well looked after thanks to Jane.

We’re so grateful for the warmth and care Jane brings to WeKare every single day. 💙💙💙

To continue our staff shout-outs, we’d like to introduce our Dannie. Dannie joined us with boatloads of experience, and it showed immediately.

Whether someone needs support with manual handling or simply a trip out for a coffee, Dannie is always a safe pair of hands. She brings a calm, professional approach to everything she does and has an eagle-eyed attention to detail that gives both clients and colleagues complete confidence.

We’re incredibly lucky to have Dannie as part of the WeKare team. 💙💙💙
