I saw an article recently about Eamonn Holmes speaking openly about relying on carers throughout the day because of ongoing mobility problems and chronic pain.
What struck me wasn’t actually the story itself - it was the language used in some of the headlines. One described it as him “sadly admitting” he relies on carers.
That wording really stuck with me.
Needing help isn’t something to “admit”.
And it certainly isn’t something to be ashamed of.
As someone who works in care every day, I know that carers don’t see helping people as something sad or embarrassing. Quite the opposite. Supporting people to live safely and with dignity is something we’re proud to do.
So I wrote a short blog about why no one should ever feel ashamed of needing care, and why we need to change how society talks about it.

Because the truth is simple:
Never be ashamed of needing carers.
Carers aren’t ashamed of helping you.
