There's a profound silence in the space where the constant busyness of the last 4 years of motherhood once was.

As I am sat with more time to myself today whilst my little one settles at school,, I found myself drawn to *Matrescence* by Lucy Jones, a book that pretty much fell into my arms this morning as I had a look around .

This powerful book resonates deeply as I enter a new chapter of motherhood – one that is quieter but just as transformative.

It reminds me that my role as a mother is to gently guide my child towards independence, nurturing their confidence while evolving myself. Motherhood isn’t just a role; it’s a journey of continual growth, reflection, and connection, and my goodness, it's an emotional one.

As a therapist, I share this because so many of us experience these shifts and transitions, and it’s important to reflect on them. We are not alone in these changes.

Let me dispel a few myths about group sessions.

MYTH: I will be forced to tell all of my deepest thoughts, feelings, and secrets to the group.

Reality: You control what, how much, and when you share with the group. Most people find that when they feel safe enough to share what is troubling them, a group can be very helpful and affirming. I encourage you not to share what you are not ready to disclose. You can also be helped by listening to others and thinking about what they are saying and how it might apply to you.

MYTH: I have so much trouble talking to people; I'll never be able to share in a group.

Reality: Most people are anxious about being able to talk in group, even me at times! Almost without exception, within a few sessions, people find that they do begin to talk in the group. Becoming comfortable speaking with others in a safe, group setting, may help your relationships with others and other aspects of your life too.

We are excited to be hosting an event in the coming weeks...more to be revealed about this shortly as we are just finalising the finer details.

The event will invite our participants to explore self on a deeper level, so we thought it'd be a perfect time to share some of the themes that can present themselves in our counselling room during sessions.

Here are 8 unhelpful thinking styles, or what we would call, cognitive distortions, that can cause us to perceive reality inaccurately, and
