Please note that following a recent NHSE announcement, all GP surgeries will now be closed on Monday 19 September. Out of hours services will be available as per normal bank holiday arrangements. For anyone collecting medication, our dispensaries will also be closed on Monday 19 September.

Dr David Egan, Senior GP Partner at Debenham Group Practice will be retiring on 31st August 2022 having been a partner for 36 years. Dr Egan is well known by many of you for the care, support, advice and service he has provided during this time, and he will be sadly missed by his colleagues as well as patients. His passion for good quality of care extends beyond his patients and this practice. As a senior lecturer at the UEA medical school and a GP trainer he has taught nearly two hundred medical students and future GPs who have been attached to the practice as junior doctors. In addition, for over 20 years, he has also worked with other GPs, hospital consultants and health service managers within Suffolk to improve hospital and community services and the prescribing of medication.

We would like to wish David a long, happy, healthy and well-earned retirement. As he will be spending more time with his young grandchildren it is likely that he will continue to be busy in the future!

Debenham Surgery are running a Walk in Covid vaccination clinic:

On Tuesday 28th December 09.00 – 12.30 & 13.00 – 16.00

For registered and non-registered patients

Patients welcome are:

1. Adults aged 18 years and over for boosters who have had 2nd dose more than 12 weeks ago
2. Adults aged 18 and over who have not had a vaccination.
3. Adults aged 18 and over who have had a 1st Pfizer or Moderna 8 weeks or more ago and have not had a second vaccination.
4. Patients aged 16-17 who have not had a vaccination
5. Patients age 16-17 who had a 1st Pfizer or Moderna 12 weeks or more ago and have not had a second vaccination.
6. Children aged 12-15 who have not had a vaccination


Parking is kindly available at the Vets.

Debenham surgery have plenty of COVID-19 vaccines. If you are due for your booster come down to Debenham Surgery between 1:30PM - 7:30PM for anyone aged 18 and above. No need to book.

2021 Flu Vaccination Clinics

As part of this year’s flu vaccination campaign, we hosted our first drive-thru vaccination clinic at Otley on Saturday 18 September for patients aged 65 and over. While we were delighted with the unprecedented high number of patients who attended, this did unfortunately result in some localised traffic congestion with some patients having to wait longer than we would have hoped for their vaccination.

While the vast majority were understanding and appreciative, unfortunately and very sadly, there were a minority of patients who were both rude and abusive to our staff. Needless to say, this is totally unacceptable and as part of our zero tolerance policy, will not be tolerated.

As part of our overall plans to vaccinate as many of our eligible patients as soon as possible, our staff and doctors had given up their own time on a Saturday to run this clinic for the benefit of our patients. While appreciating that some patients had to wait for quite some time, this was no excuse for the behaviour of a few individuals and if there is a further repeat of this unacceptable type of behaviour, then we will be taking appropriate action against those individuals involved.

We are pleased to advise that we vaccinated just over 1,300 patients, but due to the associated traffic issues and waiting times, we will be making changes to our subsequent drive-thru clinics to ensure the numbers of patients attending are more manageable, waiting times are shorter and that the local roads are kept clear.

Thank you to the vast majority of our patients who were very appreciative and for all your kind comments. We will be providing details of various future clinic dates and times over the coming weeks.
