The following poem was written for a close family member (Paul) that passed away suddenly last year as part of the Order Of Service prepared for his funeral. Paul`s Wife and Daughters` wanted fellow mourners to enjoy the day as Paul would have wanted and decided the poem should be written as if Paul was speaking to everybody present which meant plenty of humour and him sticking to his promise of having the final say in his ongoing game of "Last Hit" (The Catherine Tate Show) he played with the kids in the family.
See`s Ya Laters.
Please try and lift your heads up, now set your grief aside,
I'm waiting here for you, I haven't really died,
for I am still amongst you, I've not given up the ghost, I'm watching with a smile thinking who will drink the most!
Just chat amongst yourselves my friends and share a beer or two, I hope you can remember when I've shared a beer with you.
Don't worry about mourning me, I'm not easy to offend, share some of my stories and laugh right 'til the end.
I hope when you remember me the memories will stay, think of all the good times and the stupid things I'd say.
You think your heart is broken but there`s no need to weep for me, I've got my hands on my cans so I'm happy and carefree.
At times there comes a bitter pill we all have to take, just swallow it and tell yourself that hearts don't really break.
Don't let the strains of daily life bring you to your knees - Enjoy your life its yours alone to do with as you please.
I've left behind good memories, just to comfort you, concentrate on the good times we had then you won't feel so blue.
I want everyone to enjoy today, partake in a beer or three, indulge in drunken banter, but you must be talking about me.
Now I have to go, but just before I do, there`s something important I need to say and kids its just for you........LAST HIT!!!
Sees Ya Laters.
