I didn’t realise how busy my head was until I started paying attention to my thoughts. It’s so easy to be swept along in a wave of mental activity from the moment you wake up, right up until you go to bed.

The first downward dog was two weeks after I picked up my practice following a long break. It felt so hard. I am 50, so my body doesn’t jump back like it did two decades ago.

The second photo is two months later. Shoulders have opened a little, hamstrings less tight, heels back down to the floor. And the pose now feels hard, but comfortable.

Want to know a secret? I don’t practice every single day. But I practice most days. Consistency is a trending word in exercise and business and with good reason:

The hardest part of every session you do is showing up on the mat. Ten minutes a day is enough.
