On Friday, we said goodbye to someone truly special— Hazel Marshall, who is retiring after an incredible 16 years with us.

Hazel has been a huge part of ITS for many years and for our lovely customers she has been the face of the company (and the voice on the end of the phone) that you’ve come to know and love!

It is difficult to put into words just how much she has meant to our team; from her dedication, unwavering commitment and work ethic to her sense of humour and the friendly rapport she has built with all of our customers.

She has truly been our most dedicated and hard-working team member, who has consistently gone above and beyond, bringing unparalleled commitment every day.

Hazel has been a huge asset and a highly valued member of our team for such a long time and is cherished by everyone who has had the pleasure of working with and knowing her. It will certainly take a while to get used to the office without her.

While we will miss her greatly, we are so happy for her as she steps into this well-earned new chapter of her life. She truly deserves to relax and enjoy her retirement!

Have you heard about the CITB Employer Networks for CITB registered employers?

Employer Networks are an initiative set up and funded by CITB aiming to simplify the way CITB registered employers get support and funding to access training.

The training can be in anything that supports construction employers and you could benefit from a 70% contribution towards the costs.

Since the Employer Networks help organise it all, you don’t need to complete any paperwork to apply for the funding.

Independent Training Solutions Ltd are an ATO (Approved Training Organisation) and we are now part of the Employer Network, meaning we can provide many training courses to you at a heavily subsidised rate (just nominate us as your preferred Training Provider when contacting CITB to book training).

We hope you had a lovely, relaxing Christmas!

In light of the latest government guidelines, we want to re-assure all of our customers that we are still open for all of your training requirements and all courses will continue to run as scheduled. We are continuing to train within the government guidelines and are following advice from our awarding bodies. Health & safety/first aid training is essential to ensuring workplace safety.

We are COVID-secure and have all safety measures in place.

This situation is constantly evolving and we will endeavour to keep you informed of any changes that impact our training.

HSE have released their latest statistics for work-related fatal accidents and non-fatal injuries. This highlights the fact that Health & Safety training is as important now as ever.

The most common accidents/injuries involve falls from height, slips & trips, handling/lifting/carrying, moving machinery/plant/objects.

Due to demand, we are rolling out our newly developed Basic Trowel Skills course.

Suitable for non-trades or semi-skilled operatives who will be required to undertake Basic Trowel Skills Tasks within the workplace.

Basic Trowel Skills can include:

• Brickwork/Blockwork/Stonework Repair
• Plastering Repair
• Concrete Repair
• Rendering/Roughcasting Repair

This course is designed to enable candidates to acquire the required knowledge and skills to be able to perform particular work related tasks safely and effectively.

Due to demand, we are rolling out our newly developed Site Plant/Vehicle Safety Awareness course alongside our suite of half-day training courses.

This course is designed to promote a safe working environment by providing candidates with a general knowledge and understanding of on-site plant/vehicle operations and manoeuvring by both the operator and site personnel.

Why is this training important?

On average, each year, about 7 workers die as a result of accidents involving vehicles or mobile plant on construction sites. A further 93 are seriously injured. Source: HSE

The law states that construction sites must be organised so that vehicles and pedestrians using site routes can move around safely. This includes safe systems of work, clear site access and provision for all workers and visitors to be made aware of any current hazards on site.

The key message is: construction site vehicle incidents can and should be prevented by the effective management of transport operations throughout the construction process.
