Are you passionate about supporting families of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Do you have a warm, empathetic approach and the ability to guide parents through the systems, challenges and celebrations that come with raising a neurodivergent child?
We are looking for a committed Family Support Worker to join our team and make a positive difference to the lives of families in our community.
About the Role
As a Family Support Worker, you will provide practical and emotional support to parents and carers of children with SEND. You will help families navigate the education, health and social care system, and ensure they feel heard, supported and empowered.
Key responsibilities include:

• Attending school meetings.
• Providing 1:1 support and guidance for families, signposting to relevant services and professionals
• Planning and facilitating support groups, parent workshops and well-being days
• Coordinating inclusive sessions that support emotional resilience, mental health and community connection
• Building strong, trusting relationships with families, acting as a consistent point of contact
• Keeping clear records of support provided, in line with safeguarding and confidentiality policies
• Working closely with local services, schools and professionals to ensure a joined-up approach
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
• Compassionate, patient and person-centred
• Confident working with families of children with SEND (personal or professional experience welcome)
• Knowledgeable about DLA, EHCPs, and SEND processes—or willing to learn with training
• An excellent communicator with strong organisational skills
• Able to maintain professional boundaries and manage sensitive conversations with empathy
• Passionate about inclusion, neurodiversity and empowering families
• Lived experience of SEND Systems, and SEND support.

Did you Know.....Autism in girls often shows up differently to boys, which is one reason it can be missed or misunderstood. Here are six signs that are more commonly seen in girls with autism:

Masking & Copying – Girls may watch and imitate their peers to “fit in,” hiding their struggles by copying mannerisms, speech, or interests.

Strong but Subtle Special Interests – Instead of trains or numbers (more “stereotypical” interests), girls might have intense passions for animals, books, celebrities, or fantasy worlds — which can seem more socially acceptable and so go unnoticed.

High Sensitivity in Friendships – Girls with autism may want close friendships but can struggle with the unspoken rules of social groups, leading to feeling left out or exhausted by socialising.

Quiet or “Well-Behaved” at School – Many girls hold it together in class, but release their stress at home, leaving parents surprised when schools say they don’t see difficulties.

Strong Emotional Responses – Girls may experience meltdowns or shutdowns, often linked to sensory overload, social exhaustion, or sudden changes.

Anxiety & Perfectionism – High levels of worry, needing things to be “just right,” or masking mistakes to avoid standing out are common, and sometimes misdiagnosed as anxiety alone.

🚶‍♀️🌿 The Power of Walking for Carers & Parents 🌿🚶‍♂️

Caring for others often means putting yourself last — but even something as simple as a short walk can make a big difference for your health and wellbeing. 💜

✨ Benefits of walking for carers & parents:

🧘‍♀️ Reduces stress & anxiety – gentle movement helps clear your mind and calm your body.

💪 Boosts energy – moving, even for 10 minutes, can lift fatigue and increase focus.

💡 Time to think (or not think!) – walking can give you precious headspace or spark fresh ideas.

🌸 Supports physical health – strengthens your heart, improves circulation, and supports joints.

🤝 Connection – walking with others can build friendships and reduce feelings of isolation.

🌞 Mood boost – natural light and fresh air help regulate sleep and lift your spirits.

It doesn’t have to be miles — just stepping outside, taking in the fresh air, and moving at your own pace can help you recharge.

Join us on 1st October for our Well being walk session. Meeting at Shipley Country park Main Car park, by the big black wheel. Free to attend. Walk will take in paths and trails, with a cuppa during or after. Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
