Are you passionate about supporting families of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Do you have a warm, empathetic approach and the ability to guide parents through the systems, challenges and celebrations that come with raising a neurodivergent child?
We are looking for a committed Family Support Worker to join our team and make a positive difference to the lives of families in our community.
About the Role
As a Family Support Worker, you will provide practical and emotional support to parents and carers of children with SEND. You will help families navigate the education, health and social care system, and ensure they feel heard, supported and empowered.
Key responsibilities include:
• Supporting parents to complete DLA and PIP applications, EHCP requests, and review paperwork
• Attending school meetings.
• Providing 1:1 support and guidance for families, signposting to relevant services and professionals
• Planning and facilitating support groups, parent workshops and well-being days
• Coordinating inclusive sessions that support emotional resilience, mental health and community connection
• Building strong, trusting relationships with families, acting as a consistent point of contact
• Keeping clear records of support provided, in line with safeguarding and confidentiality policies
• Working closely with local services, schools and professionals to ensure a joined-up approach
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
• Compassionate, patient and person-centred
• Confident working with families of children with SEND (personal or professional experience welcome)
• Knowledgeable about DLA, EHCPs, and SEND processes—or willing to learn with training
• An excellent communicator with strong organisational skills
• Able to maintain professional boundaries and manage sensitive conversations with empathy
• Passionate about inclusion, neurodiversity and empowering families
• Lived experience of SEND Systems, and SEND support.
