Sunflower Competition 🌻

Today we started our sunflower competition, with residents planting their seeds and getting ready to see who can grow the tallest!

Some residents joined us in the lounge, while others preferred to plant from the comfort of their own rooms — it was lovely to see everyone getting involved in their own way. There was lots of discussion about gardening tips, sunny spots and who thinks they’ll win!

Pancake Day at Springwood 🥞🍊🍓🍋🫐

This evening was all about our residents and their favourite flavours as they enjoyed Pancake Day together 🥰 Everyone chose their own toppings – from classic lemon and orange to blueberries, strawberries and a generous helping of squirty cream 😍

For many, it sparked memories of family kitchens and traditions over the years, and it was lovely to see so much laughter, conversation and contentment around the table. Moments like these are what make a house feel like home 🏡❤️

Summerhouse Update 🌿

Progress on our summerhouse has been a little slower than we’d hoped due to the time of year and the awful weather we’ve been having, but today the sun finally made an appearance!

Ella was able to get outside and clear a lot of the weeds and overgrown plants, helping to make the area much more attractive and accessible for everyone to enjoy.

Next on the list is jet washing the patio area while the inside continues to dry out – we’re really looking forward to seeing this space come back to life ready for the warmer months ahead.

What a truly special day celebrating our lovely Katie’s 103rd birthday 🎉🩷

We started with a delicious lamb roast for lunch before everyone gathered in the lounge for a wonderful performance by Lily Rose, who sang songs from Katie’s favourite films and musicals, along with some much-loved classics 🎶😍

It was especially lovely to have Katie’s daughter and son-in-law join us to share the day together 🥰

In the evening we enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea with fresh scones, jam and cream, sandwiches and party treats 🍰

One of the biggest surprises for Katie was being joined by the daughter of her former colleague from the fire service, who brought along lots of photographs that sparked so many lovely memories for everyone 😍

A day full of music, family, memories and so much love for Katie 🩷🎈

Some of the most meaningful moments are the quiet ones 🥰 This morning Gemma spent time chatting with Barbara and together they found the house where Barbara was born and grew up in during World War II. Barbara shared her memories of sleeping in the air raid shelter and what life was like back then — it was so special to see her face when she spotted the bedroom she used to sleep in ❤️

As part of Dignity Action Month 💙 we’ve been focusing on listening to what matters to our residents.

At our last residents’ meeting, one request was for more local history talks, so today we were delighted to welcome volunteers from Strutt’s North Mill 🧵

It was lovely to see residents and family members come together to enjoy the talk, share memories and learn more about the history of our local area.

A big thank you to the volunteers for such an engaging and interesting session 👏
