Burnout does not always look like falling apart.
Sometimes it looks like carrying on… just without yourself in it.

You might notice
feeling constantly tired, even after rest,
finding it harder to concentrate or make decisions,
feeling more irritable or emotionally sensitive than usual,
losing motivation for things you normally care about,
wanting to withdraw or having less capacity for people.

Burnout is not a failure.
It is often a sign that you have been coping for a long time without enough support, rest, or space.

A few gentle ways to begin to look after yourself;
pause and notice what your body is telling you,
lower the expectations you are holding yourself to, even slightly,
build in small moments of rest rather than waiting for a full break,
say no where you can, or soften a yes,
reach out to someone safe, even just to share how things feel.

You do not have to reach breaking point to deserve care.
And there is no expectation to get this perfect.

You are not alone in this.

I work with a wide range of experiences and have a particular interest in supporting autistic and neurodivergent clients.

Alongside my therapy work, I also co host the Twice Translated podcast with my colleague Catherine from CK Therapy. In the podcast we explore autistic and non autistic perspectives, translating experiences across neurotypes.

I wanted to share this episode for anyone who is thinking about, going through, or supporting someone around an autism diagnosis.

There is a lot of information out there about how to seek a diagnosis, but much less about what the experience can actually feel like. In this episode, Catherine speaks very openly and honestly about her own diagnosis process, what it was like for her, how it felt, and what it brought up along the way. Her openness and authenticity are what make this conversation so meaningful.

At the heart of therapy
is relationship and understanding.

In psychotherapy, the relationship itself matters.

Taking time to understand how someone feels, sees the world and experiences their life creates the foundation for trust.

Hello we're Catherine and Carolyn, two friends, colleagues and psychotherapists who love a curious conversation. Twice translated is a safe space to gently explore trying to bridge the experiences of everyone. Season 1 explored autistic and non autistic experiences from masking, diagnosis, big feelings and how processing styles may differ between individuals.

With curiosity, compassion and humour, we share insights, psycho-education, tools, personal experiences and fictitious case examples from the therapy room to help everyone feel more understood. We would love to hear from you.
