The Nurturing Bee

The Nurturing Bee Integrative Trauma & Neurodiversity Practitioner. Supporting mental health & wellbeing through inclusive, trauma-informed care πŸƒπŸ§

Recent research highlights the growing need for emotional wellbeing support for children and young people across Northern Ireland.

β€’ Around 1 in 8 children and young people experience emotional difficulties such as anxiety or depression.

β€’ Emotional wellbeing challenges are reported at higher rates in Northern Ireland compared to other parts of the UK and Ireland.

β€’ Research has also shown that 45.2% of 16-year-olds in Northern Ireland show signs of probable mental ill-health, with wellbeing declining as young people get older.

These statistics highlight why early, compassionate and child-centred emotional support is so important πŸ’›

At The Nurturing Bee, therapeutic, play-based and trauma-informed approaches help children safely explore emotions, build regulation skills and develop resilience at their own pace.

Early support can make a meaningful difference to a child’s confidence, relationships and long-term wellbeing 🐝

If you are concerned about your child’s emotional wellbeing, you are not alone β€” support is available.

πŸ“© Feel free to get in touch to learn more about available therapeutic support.

The autistic Barbie is thoughtfully designed to reflect some of the ways autistic children may experience and interact with the world. πŸŒπŸ‘§

From side-gazing eyes and bendable limbs for stimming, to sensory-friendly accessories like a fidget spinner, noise-cancelling headphones and a communication tablet, every detail has meaning.

Barbie has been around since 1959, but disability representation only began in 2019. Toys like this help children feel seen, understood and proud of who they are. 🌈🌻

Transitions take time πŸ’›

If mornings feel harder or emotions feel bigger this week, know that this is a normal part of returning to routine.

With patience, connection, and consistency, children will find their rhythm again.

✨ A little tapping to calm little minds.
Helping children breathe, settle, and shine β€” especially on big days like today. πŸπŸ’—

At The Nurturing Bee, we use gentle EFT tapping to help little ones feel safe, centred, and calm.

Each tap reminds the brain:
β€œYou’re okay. You’re safe. You can breathe.”

🌟 Good luck to everyone sitting their transfer test today!
You’ve worked so hard β€” just breathe, tap, and do your best. 🐝✨

Holding Space for Emotional Flooding πŸƒ

When a child displays emotional flooding, it isn’t defiance β€” it’s a tender sign that their nervous system is overwhelmed.
Their little body is saying, β€œThis is too much for me right now.”

In these moments, correction or disconnection can make the waves grow bigger.

What they truly need is our steady presence β€” our calm breath, soft voice, and gentle reminder that they are safe and loved. πŸ’›

When we pause and co-regulate, we lend our calm to their storm.

Bit by bit, their body learns that big emotions can rise and fall β€” and that they don’t have to face them alone.

This is how regulation grows… not through punishment or control, but through connection, compassion, and safety in relationship.

This quote beautifully explains why rhythm helps kids regulate β€” Kids learn best when their brains feel safe and steady.🧠

Rhythmic, patterned movement β€” like clapping, rocking, swinging, dancing, or drumming β€” helps calm their nervous system. These simple activities regulate their bodies and emotions, making the thinking parts of the brain more accessible. πŸŒ€πŸ’‘

When kids are dysregulated (anxious, overwhelmed, shut down), they can’t reason or learn. But rhythmic sensory input helps bring their brains back into balance β€” so they can focus, connect, and thrive.

So next time your child is struggling, start with rhythm. Their body is the gateway to their brain. πŸŽ΅πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ
