***2nd Anniversary***

In loving memory of Josephine Dillon (née McDaid)

Died - 1st of January 2024

Our dearly missed mother, mother-in-law, sister, granny and great-granny.

God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be.
So he put His arms around you
And He whispered “Come to Me”
With tearful eyes we watched you.
We watched you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He chose to take the best.
It’s lonesome here without you
we miss you more each day.
Life doesn’t seem the same
since you have gone away.
When days are sad and lonely
and everything goes wrong,
we seem to hear you whisper
“Cheer Up and Carry On”
Each time we see your picture
you seem to smile and say
“Don’t cry, I’m in God’s hands,
we’ll meet again someday!”

Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.

Catherine McKenna
Died - 22nd December 2024

Jackie McKenna
Died - 18th December 2008

Lovingly remembered by their daughter's Jacqueline, Margaret, Liz, their son Sean and all the wider family circle.

I used to beg for the grief to go away.
Now I understand,
It’s the last piece of you I get to keep.
It’s in the quiet moments,
The sudden tears,
The way my heart skips when I think of your laugh.
This grief is the thread that ties me to you in a world that keeps moving without you.
And I’ll never let it go.

***1st Anniversary***

Donald Coyle

Died - 24th December 2024

In loving memory of Donald Coyle a dear husband, father and grandfather who passed away on 24th December 2024.

God looked around his garden
And found an empty place,
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, 'Peace be Thine'.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

Sadly missed by his wife Margaret, sons Daryl and Aaron, daughter Kirsty and grandchildren Taylor, Fionn, Damhán, Clódagh, Connla and Aoibh.
Precious son of Mary-Ellen and the late Don. A much loved brother of Frances, Damian and Ryan. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all of his wider family circle and friends.

Donald's 1st Anniversary Mass will be celebrated this Saturday 20th December 2025 at 6.15pm in St. Eugene’s Cathedral. Everyone welcome.

I thought about you yesterday,
And days before that too.

Love lives on forever,
It will never fade away,
For in our hearts our Nano & Paul
are with us everyday.

The fact that you’re both not here
Will always cause me pain,
But you’ll live forever in my heart until we meet again.

Our Story

McClafferty are Derry's oldest and longest established independent funeral directors with over 115 years of experience in providing funeral services across our city and beyond. The funeral directors was established in 1904 and run by John L. McClafferty and his family until 1974 when it was sold to Mr. Jack McKeone whilst situated in Meenan Square in the Bogside; ownership then passed to Mr. Johnny Casey in 1987 who remained at the helm alongside his family for 32 years. McClafferty have handled arrangements for some of the biggest and most high profile funeral services the city has ever seen, including that of the 12 people killed in the Blitz Disaster at Messines Park in the 1940s. They also presided over the funerals of most of the 14 men killed on Bloody Sunday on 30th January 1972. Over the years McClafferty Funeral Directors have taken care of arrangements for many nuns from the city. The Constitution of the Poor Sisters of Nazareth decreed Sisters were to be buried in elm wood coffins, unpolished with tin mounts to echo the spirit of poverty of religious life. McClafferty produced such coffins and were themselves commissioned to do the funerals of the nuns from the Sisters of Nazareth Convent. The Good Shepherd Convent have also used the service of Mc Clafferty Funeral Directors over the years.

In March 2019 our new owner and proprietor Mr. Kieran Connor took the reigns of McClafferty Funeral Directors and has devoted himself to providing an authentic, personal & caring service to the families of Derry and beyond in their time of need.
