Gerry’s Month Mind Mass will take place on Sunday 23rd November at 12.30pm in St. Eugene’s Cathedral.

God looked around his garden
And found an empty place,
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.

***1st Anniversary***

Phyllis McDermott née Gillespie

Who passed away on 17 November 2024

Today like many other days
Bring special thoughts of you
Of happy times we share
And caring things you used to do
And once more it's a reminder
That life's road is sometimes rough
Because the time we shared just wasn't long enough

For you were someone special
Who's thought so highly of
Who will always be remembered
With affection warmth and love

So sending thoughts to heaven
On the day you went away
And hope you know your missed more that words could every say

Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Marie, Martin, Martina, Seamy, Lorraine, Gary, Majella and all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and entire family circle.

This afternoon we were very kindly invited by the Derry City Council to a site induction of the new Mullenan Cemetery.

We have been provided with a very detailed insight into the upcoming transition between both Mullenan and the City Cemetery.

We believe that the first burials will take place at Mullenan Cemetery in the late winter/early spring of 2026.

We are available every day to help assist, advise and guide on any questions, queries or concerns that you or your family may have.

Every blessing,

Kieran Connor

***1st Anniversary***

In Loving Memory of Our Dear Mum

Majella Doherty née Wedlock

Who passed away on 14th November 2024.

It’s been one year since you left us,
But your love and warmth remain in our hearts.
We miss your smile, your laughter, your gentle ways

Not a day goes by that we don’t think of you.
Forever loved, forever missed, and forever in our hearts.

Always remembered by Declan (Sheri), Debra (Mark), & Claire (Ryan), her beloved grandchildren - Roishe, Clara, Ayla, Ellie & Noah, her sister Margaret, the wider family circle and friends.

“An Angel in Heaven”
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide,
Though we cannot see you,
You’re always by our side.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

Now you are an angel,
Free from pain and strife,
Watching over those you love
From Heaven’s peaceful light.

Majella's Anniversary Mass will be celebrated during 11am Mass on Friday 14th November at St. Joseph's Church, Galliagh.

Bernadette Healy

Died - 6th October 2025

We, the family of the late Bernadette Healy, wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude for all the kindness, support and sympathy we received on our recent loss of our much loved mother, sister, grandmother and aunt.

Thank you to everyone who paid their respects to Bernadette, those who attended the wake or funeral, made donations in lieu of flowers, sent sympathy cards & heartfelt messages or remembered us in prayer during this difficult time.

Sincere thanks to Mr. Kieran Connor and his team at McClafferty Funeral Directors for the professional, sensitive and dignified manner which every aspect of the wake and funeral arrangements were carried out. They went above and beyond their duty and we will be eternally grateful.

Our deepest gratitude to Father Gerard Mongan, St. Columba’s Church Long Tower, for his kind words of support at such a difficult time and for celebrating what was a very beautiful Requiem Mass.

A special thanks also to Lauren & Bethany Doherty and also to Ronan Spencer for providing such beautiful music during the service.

As it is impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as a token of our sincere gratitude and appreciation.

“Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.” W.B.Yeats

Our Story

McClafferty are Derry's oldest and longest established independent funeral directors with over 115 years of experience in providing funeral services across our city and beyond. The funeral directors was established in 1904 and run by John L. McClafferty and his family until 1974 when it was sold to Mr. Jack McKeone whilst situated in Meenan Square in the Bogside; ownership then passed to Mr. Johnny Casey in 1987 who remained at the helm alongside his family for 32 years. McClafferty have handled arrangements for some of the biggest and most high profile funeral services the city has ever seen, including that of the 12 people killed in the Blitz Disaster at Messines Park in the 1940s. They also presided over the funerals of most of the 14 men killed on Bloody Sunday on 30th January 1972. Over the years McClafferty Funeral Directors have taken care of arrangements for many nuns from the city. The Constitution of the Poor Sisters of Nazareth decreed Sisters were to be buried in elm wood coffins, unpolished with tin mounts to echo the spirit of poverty of religious life. McClafferty produced such coffins and were themselves commissioned to do the funerals of the nuns from the Sisters of Nazareth Convent. The Good Shepherd Convent have also used the service of Mc Clafferty Funeral Directors over the years.

In March 2019 our new owner and proprietor Mr. Kieran Connor took the reigns of McClafferty Funeral Directors and has devoted himself to providing an authentic, personal & caring service to the families of Derry and beyond in their time of need.
