Suffering from Achilles Pain??

You’re going to need more than bodyweight calf raises. Here are some key areas to target:

- Strength and Motor recruitment:
The calf-Achilles complex withstands up to 11x bodyweight (BW) during running and sports related activities. It’s critical to ensure sufficient calf strength to prevent overload of the Achilles. Aim to load for 1-2 x BW for reps

- Kinetic chain deficits:
Weakness or poor control around musculature away from the calf-Achilles may contribute to Achilles pain. Common areas of weakness include lateral hip and foot complex

- Tendon elasticity
The Achilles ability to store and release energy through the stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) is essential for running and sporting actions. Plyometrics such vertical and horizontal hops help train this quality in a controlled safe environment prior to returning to desired activity.
