This is an appointment-only session, offering personalised advice and support for anyone affected by sight loss – whether you’re newly diagnosed, have been blind or partially sighted for a long time, or are supporting someone who is.

At your appointment, our Community Sight Loss Advisor can demonstrate useful equipment, share practical tips for daily life, talk you through your eye condition, and connect you to local services and activities. Friends and family are welcome to attend too.

Trustees play a key role in guiding Wiltshire Sight, bringing together their skills and lived experiences to support local people who are blind or partially sighted.

Luke Hillman shared his journey to becoming a Trustee:
“I began as a Technical Volunteer with Wiltshire Sight and wanted to see other ways I could influence and shape its future. My Mum has been visually impaired all her life, so I’ve always been aware of the challenges people face. Knowing that I can help others have a better experience is extremely rewarding. As Trustees, we each bring our own experience and strengths, and together we navigate challenges and learn along the way about how an organisation delivers against its strategy.”

If you’d like to use your experience to help shape the future of our charity, find out more about volunteering as a Trustee:

This Trustees’ Week, we’re celebrating our brilliant Board of Trustees who give their time, experience and care to guide our work across Wiltshire.

They ensure we stay focused on what matters – providing support, advice and opportunities for blind and partially sighted people in our communities.

One of our Trustees, Gill Stephens, shared:
“I first became a volunteer for Wiltshire Sight about two years ago, sharing my experience of living with sight loss with others at our social hubs. I later joined the Board of Trustees, where I can bring a different perspective to the table, using my lived experience to inform the decision-making process.”

An enormous thank you to Carl, Gill, Robin, Luke and Nick for your commitment and leadership.

Meeting new people can feel daunting, especially if you have sight loss. But you’re not alone.

Amber, who hosts our Young Adults Virtual Hub, understands those feelings and hopes her group will be a place where everyone can support each other, challenge stigma, share experiences, and have fun along the way.

The Young Adults Virtual Hub meets every fortnight on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 8pm. It’s open to blind and partially sighted people aged 18 to 30 living in the areas covered by Wiltshire Sight, Sight Support West of England and Insight Gloucestershire.

If you’d like to join or find out more, contact us on 01380 723682 or email info@wiltshiresight.org

We think this is a remarkable development in eye health research. Surgeons at Moorfields Eye Hospital have helped people with advanced macular degeneration regain the ability to read using a tiny eye implant. The BBC reports that one of the participants, a lady from Wiltshire, has had fantastic results.

The results are astounding and a major advance, say surgeons involved in international research using the pioneering technology.
