Optimum Bumps is a free antenatal support group. It allows anyone with a baby bump the opportunity to meet others, in a friendly and informal setting, while learning a little something about pregnancy, birth and babies along the way. Each week they cover a different topic, and this evening (Thursday 5th) the topic is hospital bags.

What should you pack in your hospital bag? Can you take more than one bag? Do you really need disposable knickers? What should you take in the way of snacks? Will you need cash? Should you take my own birth ball? Or your own pillows? What toiletries should you take?

Even if you're planning a home birth, it's a good idea to have all your 'birthy stuff' kept in one easy to access place.

Although the sessions are free to attend, you do need to book your place, as spaces are limited.

This evening, here at Optimum Corner, Kathryn, aka Optimum Doula, and Rosanna, of The Mother Rite, have made up 50 goody bags, to be given out at this Sunday's Birth Network North Wiltshire's Chippenham Baby Show.
The bags contain information on a wide range of local services, as well as pens, wipes, magazines and toiletries.
And secreted within 5 of the bags are Golden Tickets, which can be exchanged for prizes.

This coming Sunday (1st March) come along to the Birth Network North Wiltshire's Chippenham Baby Show to find out what Optimum Corner, along with a host of other local pregnancy, birth, baby and toddler service providers have to offer.

The event is free to attend, and there's even freebies up for grabs!

Devizes, Melksham and Calne Breastfeeding Support runs feeding support groups in Devizes and Calne. Unfortunately there is no group currently running in Melksham, as they do not have enough volunteers.

The groups are run as free drop-in groups, with no need to book. You can attend to get support with any feeding issues you may be having, to ask questions about feeding ahead of giving birth or just to chat to other breastfeeding families, over a cup of tea (other beverages are available).

The Devizes group runs here, at Optimum Corner, every Friday afternoon, from 1pm until 2:30pm.

As well as the in-person groups, there is also a Facebook group you can join, to keep up-to-date with any changes to in-person groups, find out about related events and to get some online support. To join the group click on the link: www.facebook.com/groups/devizesbreastfeedingsupport

This birth pool was recently returned to Optimum Corner. The hirers did not fold and pack the pool away, as explained in the instructions. As you can see the pool was not fully enclosed within its protective bag, as it should be. As a result, the pool rubbed up against something (probably the inside of the hirer's car boot), causing a small puncture.
If you hire one of our pools, please make sure you read and follow the instructions.

Devizes, Melksham and Calne Breastfeeding Support is running this afternoon, as it does pretty much every Friday afternoon.

Meet other new and expectant parents, have a cup of tea (or coffee, squash or water) and if you have any feeding concerns, you can discuss them with a fully qualified Breastfeeding Counsellor.

There's toys for all ages of children, and scales are available, should you wish to weigh your baby.

Optimum Bumps is a free antenatal support group. The group runs on Thursday evenings, here at Optimum Corner, and each week a different topic is covered.

This week (Thursday 15th January) the topic is slings. Carrying your baby in a sling enables you to bond with your child while allowing you to be hands free. However there are a confusingly large variety of makes and styles to choose from. Not only will you be able to find out about the many benefits of wearing your baby in a sling, but you'll also get the chance to have a play with some of Swindon and Devizes Sling Library's collection of slings and find out exactly how the library works.
