😮‍💨 Saturday Safety Tip:

Choking Can Happen to Anyone — Adult or Child
Choking emergencies can happen in seconds — at events, at home, or during mealtimes.

Knowing what to do could save a life.
🟢 If they CAN cough or speak:
👉 Encourage them to keep coughing
🔴 If they CANNOT cough, speak or breathe:

👤 For ADULTS & children over 1 year:
➡️ Call 999
➡️ Give 5 firm back blows between the shoulder blades
➡️ Then 5 abdominal thrusts
➡️ Repeat until the airway clears or help arrives

👶 For BABIES (under 1 year):
➡️ Give 5 back blows with baby facing down
➡️ Then 5 chest thrusts
➡️ Repeat until the object clears or help arrives

🚫 Never:
❌ Put fingers in their mouth unless you can see the object
❌ Give food or drink
❌ Leave them alone

🫀 Why Early CPR and Defibrillation Matter 🫀

A cardiac arrest happens when the heart suddenly stops pumping blood. Without help, oxygen can no longer reach the brain and vital organs.

⏱️ Brain injury can begin within 3–5 minutes.

Each minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces survival by up to 10%.

CPR: keeps blood moving around the body, helping to: • Deliver oxygen to the brain
• Slow organ damage
• Buy time until a defibrillator arrives

Defibrillation: (AED) delivers a shock to restore a life-threatening heart rhythm. Used early, it greatly improves survival.

At Event Medical Solutions SW CIC, our teams are trained to:
✅ Recognise cardiac arrest quickly
✅ Start CPR immediately
✅ Use defibrillators without delay
✅ Care for patients until emergency services arrive

This is why trained medical cover and accessible defibrillators at events are essential.
