We’re excited to launch our brand-new Butterfly Café at Oxford Manor Care Home, part of the Advinia Care Group, a warm and welcoming hub for people living with dementia, their families, and carers. 💜

Join us on the first Saturday of every month, 10am–12pm, for a relaxed morning of refreshments, entertainment, and guest speakers. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect, share experiences, and enjoy a friendly, supportive space within our community. ☕🎶

At Oxford Manor, we believe in creating meaningful moments, and the Butterfly Café is here to bring people together, celebrate stories, and offer understanding and companionship.

Remember, remember the fifth of November... Whether or not you braved the weather this week we hope you had a good Bonfire Night!

To help residents stay warm, dry and feeling secure we hosted our own alternative fireworks night here. We watched a dementia friendly display in our cinema, complete with colour changing lighting. There were plenty of 'oohs' and 'aahhs' at the beautiful fireworks and even a little sing along as we waved our glow wands. The bonfire cupcakes residents made went down a treat too!

Thank you to all our residents who got creative making their own fireworks pictures this week. Its been wonderful to share happy memories of Bonfire Night over the years and see residents coming together to enjoy a special night together.

🌹 Honouring a Century of Memories – Lucy Brown’s Story 🌹

As Remembrance Day approaches, we’re proud to share the incredible story of one of our much-loved residents, Lucy Brown, who was born on St George’s Day in 1924 and served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II.

Now 101, Lucy reflects on her life of service, love, and adventure, from supporting the Army at Vauxhall Barracks in Didcot to travelling the world and building a close-knit family who visit her every day here at Oxford Manor. ❤️

Her words remind us of the courage, kindness, and resilience that shaped a generation:

“Nobody can take my memories away, this day is for everyone that served, to honour their memories.”

What a magical week it’s been at Oxford Manor! Our residents, families, and volunteers from Didcot Girls' School came together for a Harry Potter–themed celebration filled with laughter, creativity, and a touch of wizardry.

Throughout the week, residents helped craft props and decorations before joining in the fun, keeping balloons levitating, freeing Dobby with flying socks, and racing to steal chocolate coins from Gringotts Bank (using chopsticks, of course!).

A huge thank-you to our amazing Didcot Girls’ School volunteers for dressing up, joining in, and bringing so much joy to our residents. Your enthusiasm and kindness made the magic truly come alive. 🪄💫

Moments like these remind us just how special it is when generations come together. If your school or community group would like to get involved in future visits or events, especially as we head into the festive season, we’d love to hear from you!

At Oxford Manor Care Home, mealtimes are a highlight of the day and today was no exception!

Our residents enjoyed a freshly prepared menu crafted by our talented Head Chef Alejandro and his dedicated kitchen team.

Today’s menu featured:
🥣 Roasted Mediterranean Vegetable Soup
🍗 Chicken Parma served with Green Beans, Cauliflower & Sautéed Potatoes
🥧 Cheese, Leek & Potato Pie served with the same delicious sides
🍐 Hot Poached Pears served with Ice Cream

Every plate is beautifully plated by our Head Chef and Sous Chef in each dining room, ensuring the perfect presentation and a personal touch.

Residents are given the opportunity to choose their meal at the table, making dining a truly enjoyable and individual experience.

We’re proud to see so many smiles around the dining tables, another day of great food, great company, and great care at Oxford Manor 💛

A big thank you to Jeremy Parsons, Rector of St Matthews Harwell and All Saints Chilton, for delivering our regular church service today and for our recent Harvest Festival. Residents tell us they really value staying connected to their faith and traditions and come away feeling uplifted. Lovely to see so many smiles and people connecting over a cuppa afterwards.

Apologies there is no baby group this morning as Kate has lost her voice!. We look forward to welcoming babies and their grown ups back next week at 11am for songs, baby sign language and a cuppa.

A fantastic day here yesterday. We enjoyed some September sun ☀️ in the garden, a delicious BBQ and some great live music by singer and guitarist Bob Nagy.

There were compliments to Chef and our Kitchen team for the great spread. After lunch, Bob played a great set of classic 60s hits. Old and new friends sang and danced together. In fact, we had so much fun some of us didn't want to leave the dancefloor! There were so many great moments we'll be posting more pictures of that to come...

Finally, a big thanks to all our staff who went above and beyond to help make the day magical. The smiles said it all. ✨

It's been a busy week at Oxford Manor. We started off with a church service and visit from Sydney the therapy dog. We celebrated International Country Music Day with a name that tune quiz, Johnny Cash film and cactus craft 🌵. Today's memory lane sessions about fashion brought back images of flares and mini skirts for some of us but no one admitted to platform boots! As usual we also enjoyed a bit of pampering in the salon, a good read at our listening book club, plenty of arts and crafts, games and lots of smiles at our baby group.
