Return to exercise, Post natal - Everyone's journey is unique. We often hear about waiting until your 6 week check up with the doctor before getting back to exercise, but this is not a magic number by which time you will feel ready to get back to your pre-baby workouts.
Your body is still in the early stages of recovery at that point, and it is so important to give yourself time to heal. Saying that, some women return to light exercise before that 6-week window, but as long as you really listen to your body and keep exercise gentle and aimed specifically at the post-natal body, then this is perfectly ok.
I can help support your return to exercise journey, by offering guided home exercise plans for up to 12 weeks that are aimed at re-building strength following childbirth. Workouts are tailored for you, based on what you specifically need. My Build Rehab Programme will help you build a strong foundation from which you can develop and grow towards your exercise goals, whatever they may be, confident in the knowledge that you are progressing at the right level for you.

Post Natal Recovery - Once your baby is born there is so much going on, it is very easy to forget about looking after yourself. It is just as important now as it was before that you remember to take care of yourself, so you are strong and can handle all that motherhood brings with it. I can help you get back on your feet again. I will be offering an initial post natal check over, focused on you and how you are feeling. I will check for any distasis recti (separation of the abdominal muscles, this is very common in pregnancy and affects most pregnancies. There are just varying degrees of separation), checking c-section scar and discussing any other scar pain you may be experiencing. Following this I can provide you with a bespoke rehab plan tailored to your needs and goals, whatever they may be to help get you started.
This check can be done at any stage post-natally and doesn't need done in that 6-12 week period that is often talked about. Some of us feel ready to get moving before 6 weeks and others don't, we are all different.

Everyone's journey is unique and I am here to help whenever you are ready.

Sessions will take up to an hour to cover everything detailed above and to give us time to discuss any other areas as needed.

During pregnancy, your body will go through the most amazing transformation. However, it can take it's toll on your body, but by staying strong and active in pregnancy you can help make it a little easier and maintaining fitness can aid in labour. It is recommended to do 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week during pregnancy. I can help support your exercise goals at each stage of pregnancy. Throughout this journey, I can also help with some of the commonly experienced aches and pains such as;

- Pelvic girdle pain
- Lower back pain
- Neck & shoulder pain
- Wrist & hand pain
- Plantar fasciitis
- Incontinence

Treatments may include short soft tissue work, home exercise plans which will include pelvic floor exercises, kinesiology taping, advice and education.
Sessions can be face to face or remotely as required. Most sessions will be 30 minutes.
This service is designed to work in conjunction with the care you will receive from your mid-wife and GP as an additional support focused on the musculoskeletal system and won't replace any care they provide you.

As promised I'm going to share more detail over the next few days as to what the new services will consist of, so lets start at the beginning with pre-conception.
In this phase I can help you rehab any existing injuries through soft tissue work and home exercises. I can help with improving general strength and fitness if required in preparation for the extra load during pregnancy. I can also offer advice towards eating and exercising more in tune with your body's natural cycle which could help you in your conception journey. All this is aimed at working in with your existing life, working toward a healthier you to assist in your 'trying to conceive' journey. It can sometimes be a stressful and emotional time spread out over a long period so additional support at this stage could make a huge difference. Typical appointments would be 30 minutes either in person at the clinic or online as required.
